Arsenal outfox Man United, and no one wants to go to Toon
Of course, miserly Arsene Wenger is not a man to splash the cash. Or so everyone thought yesterday. Today it transpires that the scholarly French gentlemen forks out astonishing amounts of money on young players, and now he’s barged the big guns at Man United out of the way to sign Lyon youngster Hatem Ben Arfa.
The zippy left winger was supposed to be heading off to United for £14.4 million, but the player has confirmed that he talked with Arsenal, and may yet be off to North London instead for around £16 million – which is £500 zillion in Wenger currency.
“Today I am at Lyon, we will see what tomorrow is made of,” said Ben Arfa, steeping his sentence in gorgeous mystery.
Over on the other side of North London, Tottenham’s Michael Dawson has reportedly turned down a £6 million move to join Keegan at Newcastle. He’d much rather stay and fight Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate for a place in the team.
“I’m happy here,” honked the third choice centre back – who would presumably have waltzed into the Newcastle defence.
First Luka Modric, now Dawson – does anyone want to play for Keegan?

I don’t know how they can afford it…I read on a Manc blog that in 2006 the amount outstanding on transfers was about £8m, now it is over £55m which means the purchases of Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson etc are being deferred to some future date.

Dawson turning down Newcastle – What a load of rubbish. I am aware that Newcastle will be going into the market this Summer for a centre half but there is not a chance we would be after Dawson. For the same money you could sign Dunne from Man City and botjh Taylor & Faye are better than him.
Again it appears people are on Keegan’s back hoping he will fail.
