Arsene Wenger, where has your magic gone?
The big talk in the various underground drinking holes of North London is that the promising French midfielder Lassana Diarra is going to continue his whistle-stop tour of Great Britain with a prolonged visit to Spurs. That’ll be his eighty-ninth club this year – or his third.
And yet, how useful would he have been on the other side of North London at Arsenal, had Wenger maintained his chilling ability to see into the future? Plus, more importantly, are we wrong to be losing faith in the proven football scholar?
Over the years, the Arsenal boss has proved himself untouchable when it comes to plugging holes left by big players – Vieira left, up stepped Fabregas, Henry flounced off to Barca, Adebayor morphed into a brilliant striker. He’s even survived admirably without enormous names like Adams and Bergkamp. But has his luck finally run out?
The whisper is that he could be starting next season without Hleb and Fabregas, as well as Flamini – there can’t possibly be enough untapped talent tucked up the Frenchman’s sleeve to survive three such big losses.
Or can there?

Of course i trust Wenger to come up with some hidden treasures next season. If we could all right now who they’d be, then it would no longer be a special talent that he (Wenger) has, would it?

Cesc is going nowhere.
Ace // May 14, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Wenger is great with the kids, really good at spotting potential. He will build another team that will go unbeaten, we had the best team and the best game last season, Man Utd got lucky in beating us.
MattC // May 14, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I think I would rather trust Wenger a manager with a proven track record of brilliance than a lazy blogger looking to fill the summer months with idle speculation and hearsay.
Gooner United // May 14, 2008 at 3:09 pm
its time for him to go, he has become stale. We need a new manager before we drop out of the champions league places. If Chelsea win next week then there will be a big 3, Man Utd, L’pool and Chelsea who have won the Champs League but not us and that is wengers fault. Time to go
Alex X. // May 14, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Excuse me, Diarra had to go, he refused to play in a match. When that happens, bye bye no matter what. He’s a total pain and a cancer in a squad.

I wholeheartedly agree absolutely that Mr Wenger must be stopped. He is a plague on our sacred and hallowed turf and must be eradicated. With regard to his magical stick, I sincerely hope it is confiscated as soon as the Good King Ramos can weild his righteous staff of golden light.
looneygooner // May 14, 2008 at 3:17 pm
What a pathetic story, I love the fact that the scum media feel Wenger has lost his touch, the out of date corrupt reporters who have nothing better to do than talk about the demise of Wenger.
Watch next season and as for Gooner united, who would have united as a name, go away plastic fan and rot in your armchair

This is the biggest load of s**t stirring.
To imply that Arsene has only managed to replace key players in the squad with ‘luck’ is disrespectful and misleading. Obviously he does not know for definite if a young player is going to be a star (e.g. francis jeffers, who?) but his track record in this area (as illustrated by this article) is too good for it to be dimissed as ‘luck’.
In Wenger we trust!
Do not let sensationalist rubbish like this cloud your judgement!

All the guys defending Wenger, will you be happy to see Gilberto playing every game for you next season, if he now chooses to stay because of the lack of competition?
Dannyboy // May 14, 2008 at 3:45 pm
I would like to know the impressions of all these pessimists when we beat almighty AC Milan in the champions league. Did you guys think then that he was stale and no longer relevant/necessary? Give the man his due, he’s good at spotting and grooming talents but i do agree that the squad was lacking in depth, hence a couple of positions were not really competitive. This is the only area i think he needs to focus on for next season
Avram Magic // May 14, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Almighty fifth best team in Italy Milan who have been poor all season?
What about all the games around that where you drew or lost to inferior teams?
What about the fact two of your best players on that night in Milan were Hleb and Flamini?

Quite possibly the stupidest thing i have ever heard- there is no danger of us dropping out of teh champions league places. although all arsenal fans were dissapointed we finished the season empty handed, no one can deny we made astounding progress, and so the club is currently improving so what reason is there to bleve we wil drop out of the top four. And so what if the other 3 sides have won the champions league and we haven’t, its certainly not wengers fault he has taken us closer than any one else and now every year we fancy our chances to win the trophy which was certainly not the case a few years ago even wen we won the double in 1998, 2002, and 2004.
sam // May 14, 2008 at 3:59 pm
avram magic- games we lost to inferior teams? O so u mean chelsea and utd bcause i cant remember who else we lost to around that period. that period was definetly not when we lost our other games spurs, middlesbrough, sevilla. yeye when we lost to inferior sides like chelsea
Dannyboy // May 14, 2008 at 4:02 pm
The only game we lost to an “inferior” team was the loss to Middlesbrough. The other two losses were to Man. U and Chelsea, certainly you wouldnt call them inferior teams.
I said earlier that the squad lacked depth and that was what clearly affected us in those games against “inferior” teams which we drew when we should have won, cause our top players were practically burnt out from playing almost every game.
Please, please dont even try to discredit AC Milan by saying they’d had a poor season, that was just in the local league. Remember when we got to the finals of the chamions league, what was our domestic performance like? As per Flamini and Hleb being our two best players that night, does it take away the fact that Arsenal as a team played brilliantly on that night?
looneygooner // May 14, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Avram Magic, the name you pick suggest your knowledge on the game , our best players on that night were Cesc,Adebayor and Walcott, Gilberto will be a good sub next season if he stays and his conduct this season would shame any money grabbing Chav player.
When the Chavs can beautiful football then you may have a point, didn’t the Russian crook get rid of Maureen because he wanted exciting football, so your pointless posts are of no importance to any die-hard Gooner
looneygooner // May 14, 2008 at 4:17 pm
sam, what crap you talk not all Arsenal fans were disappointed we finished empty handed this season because no one gave us a chance when Henry went.
We have had a taste of what’s to come and armchair fans like you have no idea what it was like before Wenger, try to imagine seven years before a trophy as I did in the seventies.
All the new plastic fans we seem to get makes me sick, you have no idea about true support
HighburyJD // May 14, 2008 at 4:27 pm
there r results reading
sometimes tv watching results driven ‘fans’
and those that actually watch their team every week
those that actually pay
want some entertainment 4their ca$h
no1s provides better footbal than Wenger
Arsene Knows
looneygooner // May 14, 2008 at 4:44 pm
HighburyJD spot on but you can’t tell this fools that, I’d rather have a club I can go and watch in ten years with no debt or be like the rest and not know what your future will be.
Season tickets at Manure since Glazier came in, first year 12%, next season 14%, mine has gone up to £925, the Chavs can’t get enough fans to buy their season tickets, hence the adverts on talksport.
I want financial security for ARSENAL, as I know the trophies will follow, we play the game how it shoul.d be played and we will reap the rewards
brinso-gooner // May 14, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Arsene is the best manager ever. Yiddies, eat your hearts out. You finished outside top 10 hahahahahahahahaha
GunnerX // May 14, 2008 at 5:31 pm
What a stupid story, and check out some of the most ridiculous comments from our beloved rivals. I am not sure about what is described as ‘magic’, what I can say is that Arsene has class, a quality that is permanent.
dann17 // May 14, 2008 at 5:41 pm
we finished outside the top 10 you are right.
but we won silverware, beat you 5-1 and signed a few players from under your nose.
and ace thanks for the comment about wenger being great with kids even your own fans are starting to see.
I used to love wenger before he started loosing and lost all the grace that made him so much better.
im not saying he is past it but these seem to be rocky times. loose cesc (which isnt impossible),famini (already) and helb and i think you are done for, especially with what is happening on the pure side of north london…..COYS
dann17 // May 14, 2008 at 6:35 pm
and speaking of long term fans….
im so glad now its about pretty football and not championships.
remember the good old days or pumping it up the park, no midfield required so maybe thats what you can go back to if these 3 go. hahahaha
dann17 // May 14, 2008 at 6:36 pm
but i must say i do like to watch you lot play!!
and as a life long spur its important to see good football.
Nick // May 14, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Michael // May 14, 2008 at 10:16 pm
For Ramos, read Jol. With 10 matches gone and only 3 wins Ramos will be out at the end of next season. Klinsmann next up I would have thought.
gooner // May 15, 2008 at 5:10 am
Every year we hear how spurs will break into the top four every year we hear how they will do for us this time every year we hear how because they spend lots of money they will suddenly become a better team. Hasn’t happened yet has it. So you beat us once in how many goes? Not to worry it won’t happen again for quite some time. As for the players you beat us to, one word for you Zakora. Exactly, you keep buying mediocre players over the odds we will keep getting promise and talent. Diarra was lacking something mentally strength etc he wasn’t an Arsenal player neither was flamini that simple.
