Steve McClaren shows signs of becoming Dutch

Err, Steve, what are you doing?

Oh, how the nation moans when a foreign manager comes in and can’t get to grips with the language within a week. But this, people, is the alternative. Five minutes in Holland and Steve McClaren has taken to speaking like a smug Dutch gentleman who’s just enjoyed some fantastic afternoon sex. Is he mocking them?

Haha, that is embarrassing. It’s Brent-esque. I love the ‘big team’ gesturing!

That’s hilarious – it’s like a cross between Martin Jol and Goldmember.

I can see it now. The new realisty-style comedy to hit our screens: “Football Manager” staring desperate wannabe Steve ‘please like me’ McClaren. What an arse.

  • Rusty Roo // August 15, 2008 at 10:13 am

this man is a complete idiot …. I just cannot see why anyone would want to do this !

  • hackcyn // August 15, 2008 at 10:48 am

It’s called ‘speech accommodation’ – people do it when they speak to someone with a different speech pattern – like the posh boy who roughs up his accent to try to sound cool or the aunt who puts on her best ‘telephone voice’ to try to sound posh. Some people do it more than others.

McLaren still sounds like an arshe though.

    shure?”…LOL…. oh I think I just died laughing! :D

Gawd what is that man thinking of? When he started talking I had my pillow over my head, curls toed – all classic indications for a massive bout of cringing

I give it until christmas – how conceited and pretentious is this guy? Yeah Steve, now that an English manager is in the dutch league everyone is going to be dying with suspense.

No wonder people call him ‘MClown’ -why on earth would he choose to conduct an interview in an appaling Dutch accent? What kind of sh*t streams through this mans mind everyday?

    The mind boggles.

A Donkey of epic proportions! A little too much time spent in the coffee shops? A little like Harry Enfields Weird Dutch Policemen.

  • Martchin // August 16, 2008 at 12:00 pm

Teddy Boy Haircut, Spiv like mannerisms throughout his career, jangling the small change in his pockets as he inanely grins in face of another defeat and now this! No 1 with a bullet in the league of idiocy. Someone pays this bloke very large wages to bullsh*t his way through yet another job. Football! What an industry. Can I have a go?

There are some people who do not have the capacity to live abroad and he is one of them.
It is called accomodating language in that you mimic (badly) the accent of the host country.
What is ironic is that this is considered very rude by the host nation.
