Transfer Talk

Which Brazilian superstar will Chelsea choose?

Today’s gossip, rumours and damned lies

kaka and Robinho

Those who remember being told off as a child for always wanting what they couldn’t have will sympathise with Chelsea’s current predicament. AC Milan are practically begging The Blues to take Kaka off their hands, in exchange for £70 million of course, but their gaze is fixed firmly on Brazilian man-o’-sex Robinho, who is being kept under lock and chain in Madrid. Kaka has always been considered the better of the two, but that crazy mofo Scolari and his Russian backer may think otherwise.

Shaun Wright-Phillips to Portsmouth
Some managers like to speak in code about their transfer targets, dropping hints but making the press do the hard work. Not Harry Redknapp. He’s made it clear all summer that he wants Ian Wright’s favourite Chelsea player at Fratton Park and now that Pompey lack the funds to buy him, it appears his heart is set on loaning the winger.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: It’s hard to see what Chelsea would gain from loaning him out

Nobody loves Mikael Silvestre
He might not be a slave like Cristiano Ronaldo, but it’s hard not to sympathise with Silvestre right now. Last summer he turned down a move to Newcastle because he didn’t want to play with Joey Barton. How did karma reward the Frenchman for being a man of principle? By handing him an injury that saw him miss seven months, of course. Things looked up recently when Mark Hughes pledged to rescue Silvestre from Manchester Utd’s reserves but now the Manchester City boss has decided to leave the left-back stewing while he looks for more strikers.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: A move is still not out of the equation

Joaquin to Blackburn
Paul Ince is determined to have the last laugh over David Bentley after being forced to grant the winger his move to Tottenham. This weekend Round One went to Ince after Spurs fell to defeat at Middlesbrough, despite a respectable performance from Bentley, while Blackburn won away at Everton and now Ince could go two-up by laughing off links with Jermaine Pennant and instead taking Joaquin from Valencia.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: Joaquin would be a great capture for Blackburn
