Money Splurge
Transfer hysteria: Villa pay silly money for Milner
Club signs Premier League’s most handsome man…
As the clock ticks ever closer to the slamming shut of the transfer window, clubs have decided it’s high time to start splurging money around like crazy folk. Make no mistake, James Milner is a decent player to have hurtling around for your side, but at £12 million, it screams of a panic buy. More importantly, who could he possibly dislodge from the team?
Thus far, no news on Barry suddenly repacking his suitcase.

You really have no idea do you.
We paid £9 million not £12
He will go straight into the team on the right wing as we dont have a right winger.

He will play on the right wing. Displacing (Reo Coker & Petrov!!!!) Don’t worry there is a place for him!!!

you’ve been had villains! what a return on a player who admittedly works hard but lacks end product. He is 22 so he will improve, but my question is: how much?

Panic buy -He’s been tracked for about 2 years and will fill the vacant right wing spot. Barry for your information is a central midfielder.
Rather than posting pictures of unknown eastern europeans ladies you should do some research on what you post.

I’m not after a ruck, I’m just interested. Assuming you are switching to playing 4-4-2 permanently, which two out of Sidwell, Barry, Reo Coker and Petrov would you favour in the middle. I would expect Villa fans to say Barry and Reo Coker but at the same time I don’t see Sidwell spending long spells on the bench considering he has come for first-team football.

My lord, I just applied for a position as a football correspondent and then have to read this tripe.
The Spolier – very keen on football but poor at selecting staff.
Price paid was inaccurate, no mention of the fact he is only 22 and we not not have a right winger so was desperately needed.
Also do many years tracking him sound like a panic buy?

Well done Villa, £12m for a winger who can’t cross. Thanks very much.

We paid £10mil and to be fair its the going rate for a decent english M player. we know he’s capable… its just bitterness. Nothing Panic about being linked with him for weeks you moron.
trev // August 29, 2008 at 11:33 am
bitterness! i would have snapped your hand off for the original £7.000.000
sirjasontoon // August 29, 2008 at 11:33 am
Look at the stats boys…a full england internationl (under 21 forever) 2 assists last season heh heh you MUGS !!
Toon Go Bragh // August 29, 2008 at 11:34 am
Bitterness? Haha, just wait and see. He offers nothing but work rate. I would have preferred he stayed because we’re a small squad, but for £8m+ how could we refuse?

Shit on the Villa Shit on the Milner Tonight !!
Big Al // August 29, 2008 at 11:34 am
10 Mil for a player who gives his all but has o end product. 2 assists and 4 goals last season. Thank you very much!!!!!!!

In answer to a recent post concerning midfielders.
Barry and Reo in the middle but due to our strong right side in defense could see Petrov or Sidwell taking over or rotating.
Barry is going to have to perform, his runs into the box have been excellent this year but not fruitful, you would assume Sidwell would be a better option at finishing so I can see real shape in rotation beginning.
I am very happy to have Milner, the price may be a gamble, he has not been incredible just yet in his career but he is at the right club and does have the ability.
He gives us a good balance in attack and under O’Neill we know he will have the right motivator.

If the price is 12 million (doubtful) then Villa have paid pretty much double what he’s worth. He may work hard and have a bit of skill but 12M is silly money for a winger that can’t cross (just watch how many times he hits the first man when taking corners) and has no pace. Still, good luck in the future and hopefully Keegan will get some new quality bodies in before Monday (again, looking doubtful).

Is this the same player that Keegan so was desperate to keep? and also claiming he was a pivotal part of his team…hmmm, seems Jawdees know more than Keegan!
trev // August 29, 2008 at 11:39 am
KK was desperate to keep him? its called talking up the value my friend…hmmm, seems to have worked a treat too
dave // August 29, 2008 at 11:43 am
the fee is between 10m and 12m
Kevin Keegan // August 29, 2008 at 11:46 am
I’m laughing my head off. £12M for a lad who struggles to cross the road never mind a football.
boater // August 29, 2008 at 11:52 am
It sounds like KK wanted him to stay, but whilst most fans admire his workrate – no player saw more of the ball last season – he is still an ineffectual toiler most games.. and lacks vision and technique for a winger. We more than ever need a replacement now… 1omil would certainly help towards a renewed bid of 19mil for Arshavin… Villa got their man after all could the toon so the same now?
Bada // August 29, 2008 at 11:58 am
Toon fans split on Milner – at least 50% wouldnt have him in the first team
£10 million is an incredible amount of money for someone who is a grafter, cant cross and scores a wondergoal every 4 or 5 months
Terrific deal for NUFC but only IF he is replaced by someone with an end product
Maybe O Neil can get more out of him and does stick in with Villas policy of buying young English talent
Season ticket holder and no grudges against Milner – hope he does well
But 10M? Truly you have been stitched up
Well and truly

villa fans read Kevs most recent comments and it should clear all this mess up for you lol
tony // August 29, 2008 at 12:19 pm
10 to 12 mill could get 2 brill players in for that . ps milner cant cross 1st man all the time .
Davies // August 29, 2008 at 12:21 pm
He’s a good hard working lad and I’ve always liked him, but his lack of end product meant that something had to give, especially with such ridiculous money offered.
Villa fans, don’t be too sore, you have bought a decnt footballer, but you paid way over the odds for him.
I say best of luck to all involved.
CRAMMY MAG // August 29, 2008 at 6:19 pm
