Tottenham finally sign £14m transfer target

Berbatov replacement arrives at the Lane

Roman Pavlyuchenko

The first big business on deadline day has seen Tottenham sign Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko for £14 million, prompting speculation that Dimitar Berbatov’s move to Manchester United is imminent.

But if Berbatov is to go then Spurs will surely need more than just Darren Bent, who struggled in his first season, and the Russian forward, who will probably need a settling in period. Will Spurs be forced into making another purchase today, or settle for what they’ve got?

Sorry, but your reasoning is faulty. I fail to see how signing another player will solve the issue of Pavlyenchenko ‘needing time to settle in’. Won’t the new player also need time to settle in?

Good point spursfan3. I guess the author was making the point that the goalscoring burden can’t solely be placed on two men – one who struggled last season and another adapting to a new league – so even if it means two foreign strikers who aren’t used to the Premier League arriving – it’s better to have three strikers than two. Milito may be that man.
