Why Atletico Madrid’s bad form won’t hinder them against Liverpool tonight
Atletico Madrid/ Liverpool, Sky Sports 2, 7.45pm, Free £10 bet
When Liverpool fans found out that this match was going to be moved away from the Vincente Calderon, they were appalled by the possibility of having to change their travel arrangements. Could it be that by the end of the night they will be wishing they hadn’t come to Spain at all? The chaps at chickendinner believe tonight’s game will be no easy feat for the Reds…
» In his three years as manager of Valencia, Rafael Benitez won just one of his five away games against Real and Atletico Madrid.
» The Spanish side are unbeaten in seven European home games and have conceded just two goals over that period.
» Two of the sides they shut out last season were British: Aberdeen, who they beat 1-0, and Bolton, who they held to a goalless draw.
» British sides have won just one of the last six games that Danish referee Claus Bo Larsen has officiated, losing four.
» While Atletico Madrid have lost three consecutive league games, they have won both of their Champions League group games, despite losing the league games that preceded them.
» Including qualifiers, Spanish sides have played seven Champions League home games so far this season and have won them all. The four La Liga teams in the UEFA Cup also all won at home in the last round.
» Atletico Madrid haven’t lost consecutive home games since the start of the 2007-08 season.
» 20 per cent of Diego Forlan’s Premier League goals for Manchester United were scored against Liverpool. Then again, he did only score ten for them.
