HARRY THE HOTSPUR

Redknapp is a bigger fake Tottenham fan than Bentley

Arsenal fan that loves West Ham claims to support Spurs

Harry Redknapp

Apparently unaware that David Bentley failed miserably in his attempts to convince the world of his Tottenham love earlier this year, Harry Redknapp told the News of the World that Spurs have always been the only club for him:

“People think I was a West Ham fan as kid because I love that club but it was Spurs I used to go and watch, they were the team I supported.

“Now I’ve been given an opportunity that I’ve waited for all my life.”

The Spoiler can only assume that the new Spurs boss has forgotten about the interview he gave to the Daily Telegraph earlier this year in which he reminicised about his childhood and made the statement:

“I was a big Arsenal fan as a kid.”

That wasn’t just a slip of the tongue either. Before the Gunners visited Fratton Park in 2006, Redknapp again spoke of the club he grew up supporting:

“I used to go to Arsenal every week. My dad used to take me.

“We used to get on the North Bank about a quarter to one and there was a big manhole that stood you up about a foot higher than normal. Just right for a little lad like me.

“People think that because of where we lived in London’s east end I was a West Ham fan, like most of the family.

“But my dad was a big Arsenal man and brought me up to support them.”

Yeah and? So what? Who cares?

  • Yakkity // October 27, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Another reliable quote from Mr. Judas himself. Perhaps Harry now feels he REALLY is back at his “spiritual home”.

  • Judas Priest // October 27, 2008 at 2:22 pm

I’m not sure Harry actually knows who he is anymore. Next he’ll be telling us he doesn’t love money.

  • Judas Priest // October 27, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Re Drew Peacock. You obviously aren’t a football fan. These things matter. Tell me how you feel when Tony Adams turns up as assistant?

  • ParkLane67 // October 27, 2008 at 2:26 pm

Who cares? Besides which, it was not unusual in the 1960′s for supporters to have “second” teams. Maybe he did go to A***nal with his Dad, and maybe he went to watch Spurs with his friends. I used to go to Spurs home games, but when Spurs were playing away, I’d go and watch West Ham (with ‘Arry on the wing), with my friends. All in All, this is a pretty pointless article!

Regarding the point about second teams: some West Ham fans consider the Daggers (three leagues below) their second team but how can anyone have Arsenal as their main team and their biggest rivals as their second?

  • The Spolier's Spoiler // October 27, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Oh no! Guess what? ‘Arry’s already tellin’ porkies! You’ll never guess, right. He turned around and said that he supported the club he now manages.
AAAAAAARGH! Run for the hills!!! Liar! Traitor! Charlatan! You’ll never guess what happened next. Some people, right, found out that he’d been telling a few white lies and decided to make a mountain out of a molehill!!! It doesn’t matter who he supported, it doesn’t matter if he lies about who he supported either. All I give a monkey’s toss about is whether he can do a job for Spurs. If he can, great. If he can’t he’ll be sacked. But I hope that my fellow Spurs fans aren’t so blind as to want to make a judegment call about Redknapp ONE DAY INTO THE JOB, based solely on he has or hasn’t supported.

it wasn’t unusual in “the old days” to go and see more than one team ,lots of Londoners would go and see whoever was playing at home as both my grandads used to do the same

  • billiospur // October 27, 2008 at 2:46 pm

BORING !!!!! What a suprise ….. The SPOILER having a pop at Tottenham … !!!??

Where do you all get these deluded ideas that people involved in ootball are going to make decisions with their heart and not their heads when it comes to AMBITION or MONEY to support their families ,…. we are all here in life to earn as much and be as succssful as we can in our chosen proffesion … Football is no different !!!!

And Actually quite a lot of people Harry’s age went to see most clubs in London when they were young …… Leave the guy alone and let him get on with his job …..

Dear Harry the Hotspur and Mr Judas Priest, Do you really believe that every manager in the premiership works for the team he supports? If you do then you’re idiots. Football is about money and whatever Harry Rednapp said in the past or yesterday in that toilet paper rag The news of the world, it doesn’t really matter! At the end of the day we’ve got a manager who is proven in the premier league and a manager who has been in this position with other clubs and saved them from relegation… So bugger off back to your smelly arses and keep your stupid thoughts to yourselves!!! obviously West Ham supporters!

WHO CARES FOOTBALL IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST TOOLS IN THIS COUNTRY AND MANY OTHERS,TO KEEP THE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE CONTROLLED AND NOT TO EVER GET ABOVE THEIR STATION . YOU SUPPOSED TO WORK AND WORSHIP FOOTBALL OR GO CHURCH OR BOTH.I LOVE FOOTBALL I DONT CARE IM A ARSENAL & SPURS SUPPORTER . HOW YOU LIKE THAT SPOILER .HARRY LOVES FOOTBALL NO DOUBT AND PROBELY SUPPORTS EVERY TEAM HES MANAGED , BUT, HE UNDERSTANDS THE BEAST THAT IS THE MODERN GAME .

  • Elio // October 27, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Isn’t it all a coincidence that you’re all saying that now he’s your manager? It doesn’t matter though because really I hope he doesn’t blind you all with his bullshit and let you down at the last minute. It’s almost a given you’ll do well with him but break into the top 4? Top 5? Top 6? Nah not for a long time. By then Harry will be dead. :)

  • Upminster Iron // October 27, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Exactly, nobody is saying Redknapp is a bad manager, just that he’s been caught out telling a ridiculous lie. Thing is, initially lots of Spurs fans were: ‘Grr we don’t want this ex-West Ham, Arsenal supporting, wheeler-dealer Cockney’. Now it’s: ‘Wow, we’ve actually won a game. Super super Aitch, super super Aitch, super super Aitch, super ‘Arry Redknapp!’

Now now. My readings show that The Spuds will conquer the Arse tomorrow evening. How’s about that?

  • Cockerel // October 29, 2008 at 12:28 pm

We have a saying at my work:
    Q. How do you know when Harry Redknapp is lying?
    A. When his lips are moving
He says what he thinks at the time and forgets what he said in the past still he did well at Portsmouth so maybe at Spurs
