Vote: Will an English team win the Champions League?

Can England’s finest turn around this week’s poor performances?

Champions League trophy

The week’s Champions League action signifies the first time in five years that none of the competing English teams have managed to pick up three points (on September 30th – October 1st 2003, Arsenal drew, Chelsea and Manchester Utd lost, and Newcastle had already been knocked out). More depressingly, all three of England’s Champions League goals this week – John Terry’s against Roma, Steven Gerrard’s against Atletico Madrid and Ryan Giggs’ against Celtic – came in the final sixteen minutes with the English team already trailing.

For the past few years, we have been used to English domination in Europe’s biggest club competition, and Chelsea and Manchester Utd remain favourites in 2008/09. However, Liverpool and Arsenal are slipping away from the pack, with the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid earning shorter odds at the bookies.

Will an English club claim the prize this season? If so, which one? Your thoughts and comments below, please…
