1. Maicon, Brazil vs Portugal
Intricate build-up capped with a thunderous finish. Reminiscent of Carlos Alberto’s famous goal at the 1970 World Cup – this is not as good, obviously, but it’s still a lovely strike.

2. Elano, Brazil vs Portugal
Another wonderful strike taken from Brazil’s 6-2 thrashing of Cristiano Ronaldo and chums. Not great image quality, but you get the idea.
3. Reto Ziegler, Switzerland vs Finland
The former Spurs defender possesses a foot like a traction engine, and shows it off here against the not-so-mighty Finns.
