Arsenal Stats

Fact: Arsenal are a far better team when Eboue plays

The stats show Wenger is right to stand by the scapegoat

Emmanuel Aboue

The chickendinner spreadsheet above shows how much better Arsenal have performed with Emmanuel Eboue in the side than they have without him this season. The difference that the Ivorian makes for the Gunners is so drastic that they win more than twice as many games (80%) when he starts than they do when he doesn’t feature at all (38%).

Stick that in your cynical pipe and smoke it, boo boys.

A similar thing once showed that Arsenal were better without Thierry Henry in the side.

It’s meaningless unless you take in to account the opposition. Arsenal beat Man U and Chelsea without Eboue, for example.

Why don’t you take a bigger sample size and run these numbers over the past 3 seasons when Arsenal haven’t won anything and then you might reach a real conclusion?

    Leave it out…

How about you make a chart showing Eboue contribution in terms of goals and assists to the team in tha last 2 years.

Also make a chart listing how many times each player has passedthe ball to an oposition player.

A wise man once said “There are two types of lies; lies, and statistics”

You can get statistics to say anything you want.

Gareth, you laugh off the notion of being better without Henry but you finished 24 and 21 points off top in his last two seasons at the club, only to have finished four points off last season once he’d gone.

Liverpool beat Man United and Chelsea without Torres but on the whole they perform much better when he plays, so I think this point is flawed.

Spot on! I said yesterday on Yogi’s blog that we look much stronger when Eboue is in the team.
For example how Sagna has looked recently pairing up with Walcott,(very miserable) to the point he’s got himself injured; while he seems so relaxed when playing with Eboue on the right.
We’ve lost only one game against Fulham (With Eboue in the team) and lost recently far too frequently 5 games when he wasn’t playing. That can’t be an accident!

Reasonable suggestion and reasonable responses.. none of the above however can justify a bunch of idiots booing a player who, whilst not being the best in the world – always gives his best.. As a gooner of more years than I can care to remember, and having been born within yards of Highbury, I can honestly say that I have never been more saddened in football terms by what I heard directed at Eboue..

We are The Arsenal, always a club to pride itself on History, Class and a sense of Harmony – leave the imbecilic behaviour to other clubs that can only ever apsire to be like us.

Only the one that you’re trying to make.

Anyhow, there’s too much talking about Eboue’s skills. He’s strong and he can defend, but he’s rather sloppy with the ball and has a terrible shot. It’s that simple.

i won’t be sad if he leaves. while the way he was booed is bad, think about why he was booed.

You’re all idiots. Arsenal fans were mesmerised by Eboue when he first broke in to the team at right back and made contributions that nearly won the Champions League – especially on the final. Fact is that no-one thinks he can play as a right winger and certainly not left winger. Wengr thinks he can mould players to any position but he cant. Toure and Song cant play at right back; Denilson cant be made into a battling midfielder; Diaby isnt a striker. And Bendtner just isn’t good enough. Eboue is excellent cover for right back if Sagna is injured and as a late sub.

What a load of @#$% ! You pride yourself on history and class ? What, like cheating your way in to the 1st division without winning promotion from the second ?! Your history is based on cheating through some “special” Old Etonian fag old-boys network and everything you’ve won since 1919 is void. If you had class you’d relegate yourselves back to The Championship you clown.
