TRANSFER TALK

Santa Cruz will meet Allardyce, West Ham will sell everybody

The window opens in just ten days but everything has gone quiet

Sam Allardyce fails to master the art of holding a scarf

The Spoiler hasn’t even stopped to think about Christmas, such has been our tunnel vision in counting down the days until the transfer window opens. However, some of our friends in the tabloid press haven’t shown quite as much commitment which means there isn’t much gossip to share today. Here’s the best of what we found at the bottom of the barrel:

Roque Santa Cruz will meet Sam Allardyce
Blackburn’s wantaway striker Santa Cruz is going to come head-to-head with new boss Sam Allardyce today and will try to muster up the courage to tell him that he wants to leave next month.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts and Matt Derbyshire have all got better Premier League goals-to-start ratios this season so Allardyce may consider cashing in.

More talk of a FIRE SALE! at West Ham
When there’s not much actual transfer news to write about, the tabloids fall back on the their trusted Plan B of hyping up the prospect of fire sales at West Ham and Portsmouth. Today, the Daily Mirror claim that Martin O’Neill wants Craig Bellamy while Newcastle, who just a few weeks ago were reported to be spending no money in January, are apparently going to snare Matthew Upson.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: Villa do still need another striker and with West Ham unlikely to spend they could always ask for Marlon Harewood back as part of the deal however it is unlikely that Upson would join Newcastle.

Jimmy Bullard to Bolton
While yesterday’s newspapers identified Tottenham as Bullard’s most likely destination if Fulham fail to match his £65,000-a-week wage demands, the Mirror are today claiming that Bolton could hijack the deal.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: While Bolton deserve credit for their recent form, Spurs are more likely to match his wage demands.
