Vote: Can Aston Villa break into the big four this season?

Martin O’Neill is gunning for the Champions League

Aston Villa

Following their narrow win over Hull last night, occasionally inconsistent Aston Villa will start 2009 defending fourth place, and a hallowed spot in the Champions League. Arsene Wenger believes his side can still “dominate the league“, but they’ll have to get past Martin O’Neill’s men first.

So, will Arsenal prevail in the second half of the season, or do the Villains have the resolve to force a repeat of the 1995/96 season, when they pushed the north Londoners into fifth position? Votes and comments below, please…

and they deserve it too! i’m starting to develop a crush on the villa cos they’re doing things the right way even with a billionaire owner. brilliant manager, great players (most of them english u-21 or ex u-21), built up their success over 2-3 seasons, gave their sponsorship to a charity, great atmosphere at villa park and one of the smallest percentages of fans who are c*nts in the premier league. and next season champions league. good on them.

Agree with Raph88, except for the crush part, and being American I wouldn’t know about the c*nt percentage part.
They play exciting football, they’re relatively minimal in the prima donna department, and they spread it around. Gotta like that!

thanks for the kind words guys! as a villa fan im hopeful we can remain in the top 4, and still do well in the eufa cup, its gonna be hard, but anything is possible now, we just need to get a few quality players in in january, and i think we can do it!

anyway, heres to a quality second half of the season :D

The Villan has had to put up with trials and tribulations throughout his life, yo yo seasons, even suffering repeated relegations down to the 3rd Division, the reign of Deadly Doug, and David O’dearyme (Not fickle Dave, just didn’t like you).
Then along comes Martin O’Neil and Randy Lerner, the last time it felt this good to be a Villa fan the whistle had just gone and we had won the League Cup, denying Man U the treble.
Come and join in the Randylution at Villa Park

I am a Man u fan and i would love it … if villa beat Arsenal to that 4th place and the champions league place. I agree with Raph 88 again – they are growing on me. Go on UNITED!! oh and Villa

I like O’Neill and some of the players but after witnessing the Everton game, their game against us and now the Hull game I don’t think they’re going to do it. They’ve been incredibly lucky in those games mentioned and sooner or later that luck will run out.
