Spurs target Santa Cruz, Arshavin deal nearly done, Madrid eye up Liverpool star

The latest transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Roque Santa Cruz

With young Matt Derbyshire out on loan, Blackburn are left with just three senioe strikers: Jason Roberts, Benni McCarthy and Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan’s hopes of moving appear to be fading, but there are still two clubs hot on his tail…

Roque Santa Cruz to Tottenham
The Daily Mirror believe Harry Redknapp is poised to land the Blackburn Rovers striker in a £20m deal. He’ll have stiff competition, however, from the other transfer window big dog, Manchester City.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Santa Cruz may prefer to team up with old boss Mark Hughes, and currently the Blues are a much safer bet for top flight football next season.

Andrei Arshavin to Arsenal
Professor Wenger has revealed the deal for the Euro 2008 sensation is “90 per cent complete”. If negotiations continue at their current rate, the remaining ten per cent will take us somewhere into 2013.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Seeing as the player has threatened to buy out his own contract and no one else can be bothered to deal with him, it seems inevitable that Arsenal will wrap this one up by Tuesday.

Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid
Mad props once again to the Mirror this morning, who report that Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso is top of Madrid’s summer transfer list.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Alonso was simply one of the names mentioned by Real presidential candidate Florentino Perez to help his campaign. He also targeted Arsene Wenger, Kaka and Cesc Fabregas. Experience tells us that prospective Spanish club presidents will spout any old rubbish to win a vote. A bit like Prime Ministers in this country.
