Guus Hiddink officially starts his part-time job tomorrow, knowing Chelsea can’t afford to lose. But unfortunately, the stats suggest there is no way that they can win. Here are seven reasons why we will see an upset Dutchman tomorrow, courtesy of our amigos at chickendinner:
1. Since achieving a record eleven straight away league wins, Chelsea have failed to win any of their last four on the road.
2. The Blues have won just four of their last twelve league matches and three of those triumphs came at Stamford Bridge.
3. Chelsea haven’t won any of their last ten away games against Aston Villa, with their last triumph coming way back in 1999.
4. Even more remarkably, Chelsea have only managed to score once in their last four visits to Villa Park.
5. Aston Villa are currently on a thirteen league game unbeaten run, their longest since the start of the Premier League.
6. Martin O’Neill’s side have won eight of their last ten and only Manchester United have performed better than them over that stretch of games. During that period they have taken six points more than Liverpool, eight more than Arsenal and ten more than Chelsea.
7. The Villains have lost just one of their twelve home league games and have gone unbeaten in their three Villa Park matches against Big Four opposition.
