Revealed: Alex Ferguson’s memorabilia collection
Manchester Utd boss has been hoarding cultural artifacts
Over the years, Sir Alex Ferguson has accumulated enough football memorabilia to cover every inch of the walls of his Cheshire home, but the acclaimed manager has also made room for some of the most important antiquities in twentieth century history.
According to Manchester Utd’s official magazine Inside Utd, Fergie owns one of the few copies of JFK’s autopsy report. He says:
“Given the scale of the event, parts have been documented in the Press but it’s very interesting to read through the whole thing. Especially when you consider what an important piece of documentation it is.”
The Scotsman also revealed that he has acquired a copy of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s marriage certificate, from when they got hitched in Gibraltar in 1969:
“I grew up in the Beatles era and there’s no doubt they made an impact on every young person during that period. Their music was unbelievable. Alongside Abba you’d have to put them down as the greatest groups of musicians ever.”
If Fergie ever wants to evoke jealousy in Martin O’Neill, he should mention these highly coveted pieces of memorabilia. According to an interview in The Times in 2007, the Aston Villa boss’ fascination with crime scenes took him on a pilgrimage to Dealey Plaza, Dallas (the place where JFK met his maker), and at the time of writing, he planned to visit New York’s Dakota building, the scene of John Lennon’s murder.
