Barcelona fend off Premiership bids for Henry and Messi

Frenchman offered new deal, Argentinean is not for sale

Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi

In a bid to save Manchester City some time and effort in the Summer, Barcelona have made it clear that they intend to do everything in their powers to keep Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi in Catalonia.

The Frenchman, who was linked with the Citizens yesterday, signed a four year deal with the La Liga leaders in 2007, and they have already discussed a new three-year contract and a handsome remuneration package. Ideally, they would like to keep Henry at the club for the rest of his career.

Club president Joan Laporta has also made it clear that no amount of money will make them consider parting with Messi, who has already rebuffed City’s advances:

“Messi is not for sale and that’s it.”It’s not a question of money. For me he’s the best player in the world and he feels comfortable at Barcelona.

“For us, Messi reflects Barca in a perfect way that makes young players see how we develop talents.

“Leo Messi came to Barca when he was 12 years old. He has a natural talent but we created the player you know and we are very proud of this.

“I think Leo is very happy in our city and in our country and so is his family.”
