Maradona: “Pele lost his virginity to a man”

Argentinean responds emphatically to Pele’s claims he is a ‘negative example’

Maradona and Pele in 2005

Maradona keeps his distance while ‘welcoming’ Pele to his talk show in 2005

Like cats and dogs, bloods and crips and Cristiano Ronaldo and modesty, Pele and Maradona are fierce enemies. As leading contenders for the position as the greatest football of all time, the Brazilian and the Argentinean have been trying to soil one another’s reputations for years.

In 2000, Pele denied an accusation by Maradona that he had had his first sexual experience at the age of 14 with a coach. At the time, the Brazilian attributed Maradona’s surprising outburst to a mixture of jealousy and disapproval of his staunch support for anti-drugs campaigns.

While bizarrely accusing Robinho of taking drugs on Monday, Pele did not miss the opportunity to take a potshot at his Argentinean adversary, by claiming he was “a negative example”. When journalists asked Maradona for a response prior to Argentina’s match with Venezuela, he ignored the opportunity to defend himself, opting to re-tell his homosexual slur:

“What do you want me to say? He lost his virginity to a man.”

According to Spanish paper Marca, this statement provoked laughter from the journalists.

It’s really sad that the two greatest players to ever compete resort to such childishness when they could instead be setting an example for their world of admirers. Everyone knows that Maradona had a problem so why Pele needs to drag his name through the mud again is hard to understand. As for what Maradona said about Pele, who gives a crap. Seems like a very juvenile response.

    Well Done Maradona.
Pele’ should show more respect for the greatest player of all time.
Thanks Maradona, for all those magic moments. No matter what the english and the brazilians think and say (for the same reason), you are the GOD of Football.

Such a shame that 2 of the greatest playerz of all time resort to such childishness!
Why does pele have to open his mouth. Yes he was a great player but some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is pure crap.

“well done” joao? What a pitiful example of a man.

Such juvenile behaviour! Are rumours of being gay such a “slur”? Only to those guys insecure about their own sexuality. More importantly, what does one’s sexual orientation have to do with football?

So Maradona is Homophobic, why isn’t anyone nailing him on that?

  • Gndid Pntar // March 28, 2009 at 6:14 am

This is horrible. While I think Pele was out of line, Maradona’s slur is much worse. He’s being glib about child sexual abuse and homophobia. Some lines shouldn’t be crossed. Why is no one condemning his statements? the scary thing is these journalists actually laughed about this?
How barbaric and ignorant. The Latin world must be so proud.

Maradona is the greatest player of all time and i am all for legalising the use of drugs in all sports.Pele should keep his counsel and let the supporters appluad the biggest drugs cheat of all time. Ben Johnson and Chambers are welcome to the fold.

Pele and Platini belong to the same dinosaurs of the game. There ancient take on morals and rules will bring the beautiful game to it’s knees. Big up to the greatest – Maradona -

Soccer is a “mans’ sport. There’s no homophobia. Just an intense dislike of homosexuals/pedophiles. It was an adult male that raped Pele when he was a young boy. Queers should not be allowed within 100 meters of young boys.

  • Jan_is_an_idiot // March 29, 2009 at 12:22 am

I don’t think any normal human being should be allowed 100 meters of a completely stupid bigot called Jan. =)

  • ToDanielle // March 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

‘The Latin world must be so proud’ when you read things about…gazza for example… are you proud? maybe maradona is homophobic and Pelé is jealous… but you’re racist, dear Danielle

  • noone // March 30, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Maradona has really lost the plot.
    shame really…

  • Bokolis // March 30, 2009 at 1:18 pm

If England had done the right thing and snapped off one of his legs after he punched the ball into the net, we wouldn’t need to have this discussion. For all his fame and (squandered) fortune, he’s rendered himself a bitter, irrelevant old man. Maradona remains what he always has been– a cheating swamp rat…and I’ve stood on a pitch full of South Americans (on more than one occasion) and said as much and lived to spout off on the Internet, probably because they only get really heated if a Brazilian says it.

  • IAM-always-ARSENAL // March 31, 2009 at 8:13 am

Pele is stupid, why he always talks about Maradona? He must admit that Maradona is better than him.

  • joao // March 31, 2009 at 12:06 pm

    For the Brazilians:

You gays never thought possible that one day some guy would come along and make people forget about Pele’. Come on gays!!! Pele’ was not even your best ever player! Garrincha was. Even without Pele’ you would still have won those world cups. He was injured most of the matches.

    For the English:

Maradona was not a cheat. He just did not like you guys because of the war for Falkland Islands. The hand of god was just a revenge on that. But right after the hand of god, he gave you a small taste of the magic and skill that nobody and especially any English player can achieve. You were humiliated in front of the all world and that will stay in history forever.

You might call Maradona a cheat, but check out his clips on the YouTube and tell me, honestly, if there is a player that would stand on his feet with so much tackles during a match.

  • noone // April 3, 2009 at 5:47 pm

6-1 lol..just like i said,he has really lost the plot..
well i guess what goes around, comes around.

  • jet // June 10, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Pele is the most over rated player of all time ahead of beckham- maradona was right to call him that!

  • mamerro // October 23, 2010 at 10:22 am

Pele was good but Maradona is the greatest, the 1986 world cup he basically won it by himself, and Pele all the world cups that Brazil won they had an awesome team.

  • Maluco // October 23, 2010 at 10:32 pm

f***** midget native looking crackhead faggot. Pele is the greatest, and Maradonna for being Argentinian, is probably a gay man by nature.

  • Maluco // October 23, 2010 at 10:46 pm

    To JOAO.
Are you portuguese? Yeah, probably, for being so dumb. What? are you jealous that Brazil is now much better than the scum of Europe, portugal!

And kids, don’t talk about Pele because you were not even born when he was playing.

Why do you guys like Maradonna’s style so much? It’s like watching a midget on overload. Not crazy/beautiful moves, nothing… just speed and a short leg that moves a little faster than normal. Ugliest style ever.

BTW, don’t bash England in an English site. Have some respect faggots. Go post something in an Argentinian site, and go suck each others d i c k bunch of gay proud stubborn c*nts.
