Transfer talk

Cannavaro to Manchester City, Santa Cruz to Spurs, Mourinho to the MLS

The latest transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Fabio Cannavaro

The world of football news is a relatively dull place during international week, but thankfully, the newspapers are still managing to churn out the good stuff. Here are the latestspeculations that have caught our attention:

Fabio Cannavaro to Manchester City
The World Cup winning centre-back has revealed that he is ready to quit Real Madrid, so naturally the Italian has been linked with a move to Manchester City by The Daily Mirror.

The Spoiler
truth-o-meter:
There’s not much left for the former FIFA World Player of the Year to achieve, so Manchester City’s lack of prospective silverware probably wouldn’t bother the 35-year-old. However, Cannavaro has previously expressed an interest in returning to Napoli to finish his career.

Ashley Young and Roque Santa Cruz to Tottenham
During the last transfer window, only one club could compete with Manchester City on the erroneous transfer rumour front, and now Tottenham are being re-linked with Ashley Young and Roque Santa Cruz. Apparently, ‘Arry is willing to part with most of his squad players including Roman Pavlyuchenko, Jermaine Jenas, David Bentley and Darren Bent in order to generate cash for new signings.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter:
Villa will do everything to keep Young on their books, and will undoubtedly ask for an outrageous figure for his services. Santa Cruz will almost certainly leave Blackburn when a £17m release clause becomes valid in June, but Manchester City look like better contenders for his signature.

Jose Mourinho to the MLS

The Special One is currently in the USA checking out the facilities for Inter Milan’s forthcoming summer tour, and has already taken a popshot at David Beckham for moving to the big country for money. Despite this, he also championed the States as a potential future workplace: “The US can be my future yes, and not just as national team manager but even a club team manager. It’s the kind of country where you feel you could do something. There is huge potential.”

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: In the words of legendary fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu, Jose is “so hot right now”, and we can’t see him taking a step down to the MLS anytime soon. His comments were made during a press trip to the US, so it’s quite understandable that he would make flattering non-committal statements like this.
