Vote: Is Alan Shearer the right man for the Newcastle job?

OK. It looks like this is actually happening.

Alan Shearer

Unless every major paper and news portal have clubbed together to perform the world’s most elaborate April Fools’ Day gag, Alan Shearer is set to take charge of Newcastle’s final eight games.

At the time of writing, there has been no official word on the Newcastle site, and not even a hint of a quote from anyone at the club, but the Magpies have made no secret of their desperation to bring in a big name manager with the determination and nous to keep them in the top flight. Instead, they appear to have opted for a man with absolutely no experience, and whose attempts at analysis on Match of the Day are woefully simplistic.

Most Newcastle fans will be delighted if the appointment is confirmed today, and may cite Franz Beckenbauer and Jurgen Klinsmann as successful players who made the move into high level management with no experience. On the other hand, the move seems like a huge roll of the dice on Mike Ashley’s part, or a desperate act from a man looking to take the heat away from himself and the rest of the cockney mafia at a crucial stage in the season.

I hope its boost morale at the club and they get relegated anyway. Newcastle fans need the relegation as part of their reality check. Wake up you are a big ground not a big club. KK was never going to take you to the Champions League. If you stay up just aim for a Europa Cup place. If he does take the job I cant see him staying. The fans demands are too unrealistic.

Newcastle can change their manager, but they can’t change their remaining schedule. They need at least 8 or 9 points and it’s 50-50 whether this team can do it.
