There’s good news for Shearer: Newcastle are Spurs’ bogey team!

Newcastle manager Alan Shearer

Most people’s eyes will be locked on the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend but there should be plenty of excitement in the Premier League as the relegation battle and race for seventh continue. Here’s a vaguely interesting statistic about every match:

Aston Villa v West Ham
This is Villa’s last chance to seal a home win against top-half opposition, having drawn six and lost two of their eight so far.

Middlesbrough v Fulham
Boro are unbeaten in eight home games in all competitions but Fulham have lost just three of their last 14 away.

Portsmouth v Bolton
Bolton have lost just two of their 14 matches against fellow bottom-half sides, although Portsmouth are unbeaten in four.

Stoke v Blackburn
The Potters are unbeaten in all ten home league games against sides outside the top six.

Sunderland v Hull
Hull have been the worst team in the league from October 28 onwards but Sunderland haven’t won in seven.

Tottenham v Newcastle (Sunday, 1.30pm, Sky Sports 1)
Newcastle have won their last six league games against Spurs, despite the Londoners scoring in each of those encounters.

Man City v West Brom (Sunday, 3pm)
West Brom have taken just three points from their last 13 away games while City haven’t drawn at home in the league.
