Madrid target €38m French midfielder, Arsenal poised to sign Brazilian youngster

The latest transfer news, gossip and damned lies

Franck Ribery

Franck Ribery to Real Madrid
Manchester Utd and Barcelona are both said to want a piece of Bayern Munich’s handsome midfielder, but the Italian press say Real Madrid may blow away the competition this summer by putting in a €38m bid.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Sounds like yet another Madrid presidential campaign pledge that probably won’t be fulfilled. The Frenchman still has two years remaining on his contract, and Bayern manager Uli Hoeness believes he will stay on with an improved contract.

Wellington to Arsenal

A few of this morning’s papers say Arsenal are about to buy Wellington. Not the Somerset town, but the 16-year-old Fluminese striker who had a week-long trial with the Gunners in December.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Wellington has expressed a desire to play in Europe, and is attracting interest from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea. Arsenal are said to be his club of choice, as he can join fellow Brazilian youngsters Denilson and Pedro Botelho.

Roque Santa Cruz to Liverpool
The Paraguayan striker has slighted his employers in the press once again, saying he wishes to play for a “more ambitious” club. According to The Mirror, Senor Benitez will use a hefty chunk of his £30m summer kitty to bring Santa Cruz to Anfield.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Never one to pass up the opportunity to bring in a Spaniard, Rafa may be placing David Villa or David Silva higher on his priority list. If Santa Cruz forgets that whole “ambition” thing though, Manchester City will snap him up in a heartbeat.

Roque Santa Cruz is Paraguayan, not Spanish.

Correct Aidan. Equally, David Silva and David Villa are Spanish, and not Paraguayan.

    Glad we had this talk.

Santa Cruz may want to play for a more ambitious club, but unless his own ambition is to sit on the bench a lot he shouldn’t go to Liverpool.

Seeing as the delicate little flower that is Torres has a 50% chance of injury per day, Liverpool should sign as many back ups as possible.

    Good luck Santa Cruz.
Keane has set the bar very very high.

Who let out the illiterates? Aidan and Anip, read the bloody post before you comment. And if the big words confuse you, look them up.

Although I do hope Rafa does blow 30m squid on Santa Cruz so he can’t sign anyone useful–not that, on recent transfer-market form, he’s likely to in any case.
