The Rumour Vine

Mark Hughes to be replaced by ex-Chelsea manager tomorrow?

Big Phil could find himself gainful employment very soon

Phil Scolari and Mark Hughes

The Spoiler’s most reliable Premier League informant has whispered us a rumour for which he is willing to put his credibility on the line : Mark Hughes will be sacked by Manchester City tomorrow, and will be replaced by Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Is the World Cup winner the answer to the Citizens’ prayers? Or is he an unsuitable choice who will, at best, get Robinho to put in some effort? Let us know below…

UPDATE: The source of this information was a former Premier League manager, who let it slip at an industry shindig last night. He also mentioned the Roy Keane appointment before it hit the press.

    You CAN NOT be serious.
CITY …please don’t shoot yourself in the foot!

  • Boom // April 23, 2009 at 10:13 am

I’ll bet you a fiver it doesn’t happen.

  • George // April 23, 2009 at 10:13 am

‘for which he is willing to put his credibility on the line’

Well, if you’ve got none to lose, I guess you might as well just make it up as you go along! Bless you…

  • bluebeer // April 23, 2009 at 10:23 am

i hope your going to name and shame the informant when this dosnt come off

  • JamoT // April 23, 2009 at 10:29 am

for “Premier League informant ” read “We have no news, quick make something up”

City have found some stability. We can’t possibly have them spending money and getting close to the ‘big 4′. Must try and unstable them again.

    pathetic

    try again

  • Blue t´shirt // April 23, 2009 at 10:30 am

Well, a manager as Felipe Scolari could atract top names to City, so simple like that ¡ I wish it would be true

  • glyngo // April 23, 2009 at 10:34 am

    yawn

“The Spoiler’s most reliable Premier League informant”

And who is this informant? FHM or Nuts magazine? This website is more like a ‘lads-mag’ than a sports news site, in short you are bullshit munchers

  • Carlton Goal // April 23, 2009 at 10:39 am

JamoT, your team might have spent more than £100 million this season but don’t kid yourself that you’re getting close to the Big Four – your further away than last season!

  • Butros Butros // April 23, 2009 at 10:49 am

Man City have found stability? eh? lose at home to Fulham, the team with an atrocious away record?

the only stability they have found is that Richards and Dunne seem to have reached weights from which they can no longer exceed

  • Paolocee // April 23, 2009 at 11:05 am

    Butros Butros

“the only stability they have found is that Richards and Dunne seem to have reached weights from which they can no longer exceed”

man, you just water-boarded the English language. That made NO sense.

  • Butros Butros // April 23, 2009 at 11:13 am

I’ll dumb down for you Paolocee.

Dunne and Richards cannot get any fatter and therefore this is the stability that JamoT must speak of.

  • Paolocee // April 23, 2009 at 11:21 am

Mate, you couldn’t get any dumber.

“reached weights from which they can no longer exceed”

This, literally and figuratively, makes no sense.

And “cannot get any fatter” and “stability”? How can not being able to get any fatter (a physical impossibility, by the way – I should know) be an indicator of stability? Again, no logic here.

Keep your posts monosyllabic and you just might have a chance of staying in the kingdom of reason.

  • Moonarmy // April 23, 2009 at 11:24 am

Complete and utter lies, the rumour has come from a muppet with no credibility what so ever.

textbook idicoy and a complete windup.

“The Spoiler’s most reliable Premier League informant” if it’s in “The Spoiler” or “The Sun” it’s gospel then a done deal :-).

  • Gazinio // April 23, 2009 at 11:44 am

Do you not read your articles before you publish them??

who was your source? are you sure it wasnt the sunday sport??

Butros Bitros, i read that once and understood what you are were talking about.

Paolecee, just because you hold a C- in English Language doesnt mean your a bright cookie, use your initiative and common sense to understand the sentiments people are trying to put across…. fucking monosyllabic, you prat!

  • tony // April 23, 2009 at 11:58 am

what a load of tosh, if the Arabs wanted to get rid of hughes it wont be now, I dont think they would wish to unsettle an already fragile squad when there is a very slight glimmer of hitting 7th and going into europe again. if this reliable informant is so confident in his information step forward, if not then i suggest you go back to the sunday sport and write about a bus on the moon,….. oh you already have,… erm somthing else then.

  • Paolocee // April 23, 2009 at 12:02 pm

    Gazinio

Mate, it’s “you’re” not “your”. Someone has to maintain standards here.

Can’t have people thinking that all City fans are incoherent morons.

Or pretentious twats who should stick with “Richards and Dunne are fat tossers” rather than trying to be smart and using language they don’t have a firm grasp on.

Oh, and my English Language C does mean I’m a bright cookie – compared to you losers, that is.

Anyway, toodle-pip. Lunchtime’s over and I must return to my writing. It’s been fun slumming it with the mouth-breathers.

  • CITY 365 // April 23, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Pure and utter lies!! I was at Eastlands last Tuesday afternoon at a function and I can assure you Mark Hughes is 100% here until next season. He has already sat down with the Arabs and drawn up his hit list of stars for next season. Two of them leaked were Arteta and Lahm. This is 100% fact. Unlike the writer of this piece who must be getting a £1 a hit on this site with his trash.!!

  • Gazinio // April 23, 2009 at 12:50 pm

lol, WHY, WHY does someone have to raise standards??

Do you not see where you are, on a ropey comments page on the ropiest of ropey “news” sites!!!

Paolocee , your the author of this story arn’t you!!! thats why you got so upset, lunch breaks overs, back to writing another pack of shite and lies are we??? (but at least your stories will be grammatically correct eh!)

    rock on!

  • Ted Knott // April 23, 2009 at 1:48 pm

    Bollocks.

Not only is Scolari on gardening leave from Chelsea until the start of next season, but City’s chairman and cheif executive were only saying last week that there’s a new four-year deal on the table for Hughes.

    Stop talking shit. Arseholes.

  • George // April 23, 2009 at 3:07 pm

… and all this matters about as much as Jade Goody did…

  • Gazinio // April 23, 2009 at 3:15 pm

    lmao n1 George!

  • East Belfast // April 23, 2009 at 3:46 pm

    Absolute fucking BOLLOCKS!

  • anthonyOA // April 23, 2009 at 4:17 pm

to be honest, this would be the best time to dump Hughes if they really want to. Out of everything and battling for mid-table obscurity with a handful of games left.

it gives the next man ample time to prepare for next season. i think it should go to mourinho though.

i’ll still put a cheeky fiver on this though.

  • Wolfie // April 23, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Like that is going to happen one day before a game.

  • RICHARD CHARMAN // April 23, 2009 at 6:01 pm

As a Chelsea supporter waiting for any manager to come close to replicating Jose Mourinho success I reflect on Phil Scolari’s time with us as helpful initially – at least in improving the perception of the club – a welcome if short lived development. It seems that for some people. Chelsea are still one of the most disliked Premiership clubs.
As to Phil ‘s contribution to developing and reinforcing Chelsea’s game winning desire forged by Jose Mourinho, the evidence from our results and the disintegration of moral at the club suggests the demands of club football at the highest level may prove more of a hurdle to Phil than he perhaps imagined.

I would like to see Mark Hughes given another season to get things right at Man City because I think he has the potential to be a very good manager. I don’t see Phil being an answer to City’s problems – indeed he could end up having his reputation damaged further if he fails to deliver but if the story is true, does it have more to do with City trying to keep another Brazilian happy….

If Big Phil is the answer, what the hell is the question? It’s a shame to use United as an example but surely they prove that a decent manager and time at the helm can bring success. Chelsea have succeeded despite the managerial merry-go-round thanks to the money they have spent. Their tenure in the top 4 is alongside 3 teams who have held on to their managers even when it hasn’t all gone their way and they are 3rd out of 4 – hardly a reward given the millions they have spent these last 3 years. Not saying that United don’t spend – although right now they don’t have much cash – but instability hardly breeds success and confidence.

ADUG are not stupid and know that a chasm exists between the top 4 and the rest of us – look at how Villa have fallen away as the season comes to a close. They will also know that if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em – inherit a decent manager, back him, back him, back him some more and reap the rewards. Anyone telling you different has either been briefed to blow smoke or is talking out of their rear.

  • The Dragon // April 23, 2009 at 8:57 pm

What a load of rubbsih, Hughes has only just appointed two more people to his staff, hardly the actions of a man about to be sacked. “Staked his credibility” hahahaha you couldn’t make it up.

  • Tom // April 23, 2009 at 10:35 pm

@27 – Juande Ramos was fired at 12am the day before the game against Bolton.

Spurs were even worse then derby at that point though.

  • Man of the 'tic // April 24, 2009 at 5:18 am

I think what nearly EVERYONE has missed so far is the title of this piece:

Mark Hughes to be replaced by ex-Chelsea manager tomorrow?

Notice that small symbol at the end of the title? That is called a question mark. This implies the asking of a question.

The Spoiler is asking you the following question (albeit shortened)…

Is there a chance that based on a RUMOUR from an UNKNOWN SOURCE regarding the appointment of Scolari and the canning of Mark Hughes could be true?

You are left to make up your own mind about the question, but instead the vast majority of you just go off on one about how this website which specialises in TRANSFER RUMOURS is munching bullshit.

Furthermore, I suppose if you want to get technical about it you could see the logic behind making a sweeping statement like that, its all about numbers…

Since becoming a big money club, the average Chelsea manager has had a tenure of (on average) just over a year. This included a haul of trophies from Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant taking them to the Champions League final.

Hughes has been at the club for the full 8 months of its ‘big-money’ status, and despite this has had a pretty average time of it.

Man City and Chelsea are both big money clubs, and in the years that Chelsea have attained this status, they’ve had a notorious streak for sacking managers.

Man City have been a big money club for less time, therefore it is hard to establish what they will do, but looking at Chelsea and their tendancy to get rid of managers, the principle is the same, we just don’t know what to expect from City as their time as a big money club has only just begun.

  • Gazinio // April 24, 2009 at 7:45 am

man of the tic, your a cock!

so, if i publish articles with titles such as:

Roy Keane sells wife to arabs? or Pablo Zabalaetta, is he an alien?

as long as i put a quesiton mark at the end you say its ok to report it as “rumour”?

is “Man of the Tic” a complete arse? (see its only rumour and i can report it!)

  • Raph88 // April 24, 2009 at 8:19 am

erm… course it’s ok. it’a called free speech and by the addition of the question mark you’re ruling out it being called slander.

for example: are gazinio and the rest of citeh fans the most delicate hysterical little flowers in the premier league?

(actually maybe i don’t need the question mark there after all the posts in this thread.)

  • Gazinio // April 24, 2009 at 8:21 am

Will Raph’s mum “ever” climb off Gazinio’s Cock?

Phil Scolari yes please… Sack Hughes now
Yes it would make sense to sack Hughes now as we are safe in the table and can’t win jack now…
Scolari can get familiar with the team and try things out so then when new season comes we’ll be ready!

Gazinio, I would like to go on record and risk my credibility to dispel the rumour that I am a cock, this is in fact not true contrary to your sources.

Furthermore I would like to say that yes, based on the logic of free speech you could in theory publish an article about Roy Keane selling his wife to arabs etc.

The whole point is you don’t publish articles and are an arrogant prick with fuck all better to do than write unconstructive comments about peoples mothers.

  • Gazinio // April 24, 2009 at 6:28 pm
