Five reasons to back Man Utd to beat Wigan tonight
Wigan/Manchester Utd, 8pm, Sky Sports 1
Steve Bruce has made his annual “we won’t roll over against Manchester United speech” – a speech he probably wouldn’t have to make if it didn’t keep happening – but to say the bookmakers are unconvinced would be an understatement. With the home win available at a stupendously long 14.5 on Betfair, even the most optimistic of Liverpool fans won’t be holding out too much hope. Here are five stats about tonight’s game, courtesy of chickendinner:
1. Wigan have lost all eight of their meetings with Manchester United.
2. Steve Bruce’s side have lost just two of their last 12 games at the JJB but have won just two of their last 15 league games.
3. The Latics have taken just one point from their four home games against the top five sides (two points from nine games overall) and they conceded four times against both Arsenal and Aston Villa.
4. Manchester United have won 17 of their last 19 league games and, Liverpool aside, they have won eight of their nine against North West sides.
5. Only one of the seven goals that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have scored at the JJB has come in the first-half and that was a penalty, suggesting that there may be value in backing the HT-FT Draw-Man Utd at 4.7 on Betfair.
