Manchester United want Karim Benzema now, Hull plan to hold talks with Michael Owen
Even more transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies
Karim Benzema to Manchester United
The French striker’s agent Karim Djaziri revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign his client this summer. Just last week, Djaziri was quoted as saying that Benzema was happy to stay with the Ligue 1 club for another year.
The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: Djaziri doesn’t expect Lyon to demand more than 40 million euros but the French side are in a great bargaining position as they know that the Red Devils have plenty to spend and need a striker.
Michael Owen to Hull
Phil Brown has confirmed that he was deadly serious about trying to sign Owen after his Newcastle contract expires next week. He said: “Hopefully Michael will give us the time of day and we can get around a table, then who knows?”
The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: Hull’s best bet is to make the table they gather around a treatment table so that Owen feels at home. The only problem there is that they’ll have to wrestle record signing Jimmy Bullard off of it.
Alvaro Arbeloa to Real Madrid
Glen Johnson completed his move to Liverpool on a four-year contract this afternoon* and Rafael Benitez has confirmed that they have received “two or three” enquiries about last season’s first-choice right-back Arbeloa.
The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: The Spaniard has spoken of his “pride” at being linked with Real Madrid and if Liverpool are offered £10 million, it seems certain they will sell the defender, who is out of contract next summer.
SPOILER BONUS: Liverpool’s official site has celebrated Johnson’s arrival by publishing “ten fascinating facts” about him which look suspiciously more like the first things they found on his Wikipedia page than exciting nuggets of information. Click here to be fascinated.
