Samuel Eto’o wants to stay at Barcelona, Xabi Alonso is keeping his options open

A further helping of transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Samuel Eto’o

Samuel Eto’o is going to snub Manchester City
Today’s papers are filled with talk of Eto’o moving to Eastlands for a pay packet ranging between £180,000-a-week and £250,000 depending on which tabloid, if any, you choose to believe. However, the striker’s agent has said: ”If there is not a 180-degree turnaround then he will stay with Barcelona.”

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: It looks like the 28-year-old isn’t interested in missing out on Champions League football in favour of more money, which is impressive considering he was linked with a move to Uzbekistan last summer.

Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid
The Liverpool midfielder is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his future. The Spaniard told Don Balon magazine that he is happy to stay at Anfield but reponded to being linked with Real Madrid by saying: “I have not closed any door and we will just have to wait and see what happens.”

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Rafael Benitez will be reluctant to lose his compatriot after an impressive season but it all depends on whether Real Madrid are willing to make Liverpool an offer too good to turn down.

Kyle Naughton to Manchester City
Aston Villa and Everton have been linked with Sheffield United’s speedy full-back all summer but neither have had an offer accepted. Manchester City are reportedly ready to swoop in and match the Blades’ £7 million asking price.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Kevin Blackwell is supposedly resigned to losing the 20-year-old star and will sell to the highest bidder, which means that City must be considered favourites.
