Tuncay linked with two top-half clubs, Manchester City bid for former United striker
A further helping of transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies
Gokhan Inler to Arsenal
With primary target Melo almost certain to join Juventus, Arsenal have been forced to look elsewhere for a new midfielder. However, reports suggest Arsene Wenger is restricting his search to Serie A and now wants to sign £10 million-rated Gokhan Inler from Udinese.
The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Arsenal were linked with the Swiss international a lot last summer so hopefully this doesn’t drag on as long as the Andrey Arshavin saga did, especially as this transfer window has been fairly interesting and unpredictable so far.
Tuncay to Everton or Aston Villa
Middlesbrough’s local paper the Evening Gazette states that Aston Villa are looking to complete a £20 million double deal for Stewart Downing and Tuncay. However, The Daily Mail is less optimistic about Boro’s chances of making big money, claiming Everton will offer £4 million for the striker.
The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Talk of Tuncay moving to Liverpool has died down but the 27-year-old’s versatility and work rate mean that he could be an asset for a number of top-half clubs.
Giuseppe Rossi to Manchester City
Sometimes having Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Elano, Roque Santa Cruz, Shaun Wright-Phillips and potentially Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto’o as options for your front three isn’t enough. That must be Mark Hughes’ logic judging by reports that the Citizens made a bid for former Man United striker Rossi.
The Spoiler truth-o-meter: The Italy striker’s release clause is set at €40 million and surely not even City would offer that much for someone who has yet to score more than 12 league goals in a season.
UPDATE: Inler’s agent has denied Arsenal’s interest.
