City-bound Samuel Eto’o no longer answering his phone to Barcelona president

Striker no longer wishes to speak to his employer

Joan Laporta

According to this morning’s Daily Star, Barcelona are ready to accept Manchester City’s £25m offer for Samuel Eto’o, so that they may partially fund a £40m bid for their former employee Cesc Fabregas.

Barca president Joan Laporta supported this theory with an appearance on TVE show 59 Segundos (59 Seconds) last night, where he revealed the extent to which the relationship between the player and the club has deteriorated. Eto’o will apparently no longer answer his phone to the Barca head honcho:

“I’ve called a couple of times, but he did not answer. I do not know if the number has changed, or if his entourage has told him something.

“We have always had a clear and direct relationship. We offered him two more years and we look forward to his response.”

The Spoiler thinks Barcelona should wash their hands of the unprofessional Cameroonian, who appears to be holding them to ransom. In light of these antics, perhaps Manchester City should think twice before meeting his astronomical wage demands…

Man City know what they’re getting into. And frankly, they deserve every bit of it. He’s a proven goalscorer, and will probably bring them his fair quota. But Eto should be the real one concerned. I hate players like this, who make the move in football strictly based on the idea of making a shit ton more money. I know it’s business for them and all, but the fact that there’s no heart is just despicable to me.

Bash Ronaldo all you want, but he wanted to go to his “dream” club and you can see how important it is to everyone involved (cue 80k people in the Bernabeu). Eto is going to leave the treble Barca squad to go the troubled Man City one. While Ronaldo may not be as successful at Madrid as he was with Man Utd, at least he can sleep well knowing he’s at his favorite club. Can Eto say the same thing?

I think the Spoiler is completely wrong on their assessment of Mr. Eto because, he already stated that he wants to stay with FC Barca but doesnt like the treatment he has received from the club! They are trying to offload him to whoever wants to take him so i can understand his frustration. He plays with a lotta heart in every game and loves the club and its not about the money!!! Barca have accomplished a lot with Eto and if they let him go I would want Real Madrid to HAMMER Barca just 4 the way they have treated him. He’s an honest player and i think they should show him WAY MORE RESPECT FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR THEIR CLUB!! I say Eto go Manchester City were the fans would love you n respect you! And I’m an ARSENAL fan and a footballer! So I can appreciate Eto cause he’s a baller!

O don’t the girls get bitchy? Are you a Chelsea or United fan by any chance?

  • UnitedFan // July 9, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Eto’o cant get to eastlands fast enough for me and start destroying city from the inside out.

Hughes shouldnt waste anymore time or money on him.

Hes too old (for the transfer fee) and too much of a money grabbing baby to have at a club trying to build up a solid premier league challenging squad.

    Still think its funny though.

Eto is troubled because the club treated him the way Arsenal treated Flamini so i understand that! When a club wants you, you feel better about yourself and wanted. myself as a player when i got transferred it was because the next club stated their amibtions and what they wanted from me. So i knew i had to perform and didnt mind doing so. The clubs fans applauded me when i stepped on the pitch in my new jersey for the 1st time and to any plyer thays a great feeling! So Eto go where u would be appreciated and wanted. Go Man City and make them a force in the EPL! I wish u well. A GUNNER!!

    Barcelona can suck my c*ck
i wanted them to smash on Real Madrid for having to buy football and not create it but
this is a smack in eto’s face
    not only that
its the same thing they did to robinho who wich i beleive is one of the best players in the world
they simply want to offload his rights for another player
eto deserves to be respected for what he gave barca
    over 1oo f*cken goals

From considering Man City a bit of a joke, I’m starting to take them seriously.

Look at their team sheet. its not an unbalanced R Madrid-style galactico team. Its a team that (if it clicks) is going to hammer a lot of other premiership teams. They already have a smashing midfield, Hughes seems to be concentrating on forwards and defenders this summer.

They have more available cash than R Madrid, Barcelona, man U, chelsea and AC Milan put together, and they don’t look like they will chop and change their manager every season.

    Gulp!

can the spoiler explain why he thinks E’too should simply go to a club his club chairman says he should? Could he say the same if it were kaka or gerrard involved. You really should be ashamed of your thoughtless stance.

You have no idea on what´s happening with Eto´o. It is all the reverse, the Club & its President is unprofessional as they are organizing a PR campaign to fool – via their proxy media – ignorants & badly informed people like yourself to write what you write.

Do us all a favour, maintain The Spoiler as a slap-stick site full of humour & tits, & stay away from serious Football comments, or at least on Spanish Football

Anthony, we’re very impressed with your insider knowledge, and ability to see this Barcelona PR campaign against Eto’o. After all, to the untrained eye, he appears to be extremely difficult to deal with and very lucky to have been playing for the club in the Guardiola regime.

How did you acquire such a perspective?

  • David // July 9, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Apparently you do know what’s happening Anthony, would you care to back it up with some facts of your own, or just meaningless rants and opinions?

Why did he phone him, he’s in the top right hand side of the picture. Taking the piss. No doubt.

Samuel Etoo should leave Barcelona in accordance with the contractual agreement. No doubt is the most proven goal scorer at any level of competion and as such he deserved some respect from Barcelona management and coaching bench. In all fairness, we expected the Calatans to offer him an improved contract just as they have done to his team mates .In case you are wondering , Samuel Etoo is not one of the most paid players in the world despite leading barcelona to major achievement . Barcelona have gone without a trophy in the absence of the Camerounian striker and is the only striker who can publicly criticised for failing to score in two games. It is my sincere hope that Etoo leaves Barcelona and allow the club to bring in the spaniard , David Villa who has been worshiped and praised before is tested in high profile Champions League Games. David Villa is a quality striker ,but it is an insult to say is better than Etoo who is a proven goal scorer with a consistent record. To be honest, Torres is a better striker than Villa and appears to have certain Qualities we cannot notice in Villa. My Verdict is that ; No Etoo no Trophies for Barcelona .
