Vote: Who will be the best of the rest in the Premier League?

Check out some stats which suggest it won’t be Manchester City

As The Spoiler mentioned on Friday, we’re stunned that Coral are offering 5/1 on Everton being the best-placed Premier League team outside the Big Four.

It’s understandable that Manchester City are favourites – after all they could buy every single Everton player at ten times their asking price if they wanted – but to have the team who have finished fifth in each of the last two seasons at such a long price seems like a big mistake.

Yes, they don’t have as much money to spend as City and potentially even Aston Villa and Spurs but they were written off last season for the same reason and as always defied the odds, despite having key players ruled out for long periods with injuries.

Are we overestimating David Moyes or are the bookmakers leaving themselves liable for a substantial loss? Let us know which team you think will be the “best of the rest” in 2009-10 with a vote and comment below:

Moyes is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the premier league, only behind ferguson and wenger imo… Everton will be 5th, make no mistake

That he is, Jon. But how can you say now to this…
    ——————-Given————————–
    Richards-Zabaleta-Dunne-Onuoha/Bridge
    ————Kompany-De Jong—————–
    ——-Ireland-Phillips/Barry-Robinho—–
    ————Santa Cruz/Tevez—————–

It will be even more crowded at the top of the table this year perhaps.

David, I agree with you, on paper it looks flawless. But apart from Barry, Santa Cruz and Tevez that was the side that struggled last season.

Of course those three will improve things, but I don’t know if Tevez and Santa Cruz are all they need. Santa Cruz had an indifferent season (though he seems to love Hughes) and Tevez isn’t a big goalscorer, and I say that as someone who rates him very highly.

I’ll admit that I’m an Evertonian, but I do believe that if we can get Arteta/Yakubu/Jagielka back relatively quickly, hopefully clinch Naughton at right back and add another quality midfielder, we won’t be far off.

Should be a fantastic season either way though.
