Transfer talk

Liverpool target £10m La Liga defender, Sol Campbell looks to the Championship

The latest transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Fernando Amorebieta

Fernando Amorebieta to Liverpool
Rafa’s men are very popular in the Basque region, but this might change if Bilbao’s prized defender heads to England. Marca believe he would cost €12m (£10m).

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: That’s a lot of money for a 24-year-old who has yet to represent his country at the top level. Perhaps Hull’s Michael Turner would be a better option.

Sol Campbell to Newcastle

At the end of his Portsmouth contract, Big Sol said he would like to go somewhere with some stability, so naturally, he has been linked with one of the few clubs that are less stable than his current one. He watched the Toon’s demolition of Reading at the weekend, and signed autographs for fans.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: We think this one will happen, particularly if Mr Newcastle (Steven Taylor) jumps ship.

Matthew Upson not going anywhere
Despite whispers of an imminent move to Manchester City, Upson ain’t going nowhere, according to Gianfranco Zola:

“As far as I’m concerned, we’re looking to buy players not sell them.

“We’ve had no offers for Matthew and we want to keep him.”

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Zola’s words may be reassuring for Hammers fans, but the club’s precarious financial situation may yet make a ridiculous offer from City too hard to resist.
