Chelsea fans boo players during their own open day training session

Lampsie, JT and co are told not to make time for the fans

Chelsea open day training sesh

It’s the sort of thing that usually happens before the start of the season, but yesterday 8,000 Chelsea fans gathered at Stamford Bridge for an open day training session.

Such events are usually conducive to a positive and relaxed atmosphere, where lucky fans can get pictures and autographs with their heroes, who are not distracted by the pressure of a big matchday.

Not so at Chelsea. Supporters who made the effort yesterday were told over the tannoy system that the players would not sign anything, citing “safety concerns”. The club’s decision to protect their players from RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome was not well receieved:

After a 90-minute practice session the Chelsea players gave a half-hearted lap of honour during which they were roundly applauded. But those cheers quickly turned to boos as the announcer informed those in the stands that players would not be putting pen to paper for the thousands of schoolchildren in attendance.

Aside from John Terry’s impromptu assault of a Chelsea TV reporter, the highlight of the session was the appearance of Joe Cole, who hasn’t trained since rupturing cruciate ligaments in January.

so once again you read something in a paper and believe it. then reguritate it on here as your opinion. you truly are pathetic. this is what one person wrote on the site of the initial report you pilfered.

“i was at the open training session yesterday with my partner and boy. No one tried getting us to sing they got us to sing happy birthday to bosingwa. When Neil Barnett came out onto the pitch and got us all to stand up and do a minutes applause for Liverpool as its the end of their title hopes everyone joined in! As for the signing of the autographs yeah they didnt do them in the ground but we went outside by the restaurant and were told it was due to people getting crushed last year, but the likes of John Terry, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Drogba, Bosingwa, Chech, Carvalho and Deco all came out and signed autographs and John Terry came back and lifted my little boy over the security barrier to have his picture taken so dont start saying that they didnt do anything and that fans were disappointed, you need to speak to the fans before you put rubbish in the paper”

so it looks like it was more pathetic journalism. but i suppose its what were now used to from the so called media in this country.

I don’t see how any of the information you provide contradicts what I have written, dkw.

I’m reporting – not opining – that players were not allowed to sign autographs at the session and some people booed. People were dissatisfied with this decision, but obviously not everyone had a bad day.

Why do they always try to make some bull-shit up about chelsea. I was at the session, they signed autographs, had pictures with us and everything. There was no booing -_-

It may be reporting as you know it Jim, sorry Ryan, but to be a grown up reporter you have to distort the facts horribly in a non balanced view.

So you are doing quite well – but must try harder to get your quota of hits!

This isnt the truth at all!!! Unless you were there then i cant see how you can even report on this event? The players were professional about their training, and JT done a speech at the end. The reason they werent allowed to sign autograph’s inside the stadium was due to security reasons, not down to the fact that the players didnt want to!!! As for boo’s? What boo’s? Anyway the players showed their appreciation by signing autogrpahs outside the stadium where they were allowed to do so! Just another person trying to get a cheap shot at chelsea football club!

Ryan:@ When you wrote “Not so at Chelsea” this was contradicted by all reports from people who were there. You haven’t reported the event. You’ve reported a newspaper article which was partial in the extreme. I’m sure you can spot the difference.
