Redknapp: “There’s no way Sol will ever play for Spurs again”
‘Arry sends a wave of relief through the White Hart Lane faithful
Sol was unhelpful in the search for Jason Euell’s contact lens
In the weekly column that a Sun journalist writes for him, Harry Redknapp has today tackled the thorny issue of Sol Campbell’s future. The Tottenham boss has made no secret of his passionate admiration for the big centre back, and the rumour mills have been going into overdrive with suggestions that they are destined to work together once again.
Redknapp, however, has quelled the fears of Spurs fans who predicted World War III if Campbell ever returned, by claiming he will never call White Hart Lane home again:
Some people are already claiming I am now going to sign Sol.
Well, let’s nail that one straight away – it ain’t going to happen.
I said during the summer that, if I was the boss of any other Premier League club, I’d sign Sol like a shot.
That statement still applies today. But there is no way in the world Sol is ever going to play for Spurs again.
There is simply too much bad feeling towards him from the fans at White Hart Lane. It would be too much hassle for him, for me and the club.
Elsewhere in the column, Redknapp claims that Campbell turned down a year-long deal from an Italian club last season as he wanted a minimum of two years (which seems a little rich in light of recent events) and that he may give tabloid headline writers hilarious ‘Costa del Sol’ puns with the move to Spain that he has always wanted.
If a Premier League club do decide to take a punt on Campbell in January, betting fans will be pleased to know they can have a flutter on how many hours he will spend with his next employer. The current favourite, according to The Fiver, is 10-12 hours at 5-1.
