Berlusconi: “AC Milan are the number one team in the world”

Italian PM forgets about all the teams that are better than his

Silvio Berlusconi

Currently sitting in the bottom half of Serie A with two league wins to their name, AC Milan are struggling to find form under Leonardo. Well aware of this fact, owner Silvio Berlusconi yesterday described the start to the season as “a disaster” while visiting the earthquake-hit region of Abruzzo. However, when he realised a reporter from La Gazzetta dello Sport heard his comment, he changed his mind quicker than a former Tottenham defender at a League Two club:

“Ah, you work for Gazzetta?”"Well, when I said ‘disaster’ I was just saying it for the sake of it.

“It is a difficult moment, but that’s football. It will pass. We’ll see where things stand in the end.”

The Italian ladies’ man – who has suspiciously black hair and perfect teeth for a man who turned 73 yesterday – continued to back-track from his “disaster” comment this morning when speaking to Sky Italia:

“The team are not going through a positive period, but they are still the first in the world.”

“I was asked whether they were a disaster and I only said these are not very satisfactory days. But, as usual, the press does its job and chases headlines.”

Ye, you read that correctly. A team that hasn’t won anything since 2007 is the “first in the world”. If Berlusconi doesn’t want the press to “chase headlines”, perhaps he should stop coming out with such indredulous quotes.

Probably best not to go to the “earthquake-hit region of Abruzzo” and describe your team’s start to the season as a “disaster”…

Silvio is right about one thing, Milan is first, if you look at the statistics. Along with Boca, they have most trophys world wide. Any journalist cant ignore that fact.
The stats make Milan, maybe, the biggest institution i european football. Thats his point, and you cant disagree with him on that.
Like he says, journalists are selfsentered and extremely unsympathetic, and always out to put pressure on people to make another comment to abuse.
