Make a player wait a certain length of time before re-entering the pitch if the physios have to come on for an injury. Exceptions for head injuries and blood to give a little discretion for the referee.

There will be a lot more just getting up after a hard foul and a lot less rolling around on the pitch trying to get other players sent off. Should eliminate the more egregious time-wasting at the end of close matches.

I've been saying that $h!t for years...that a player that comes off for "injury"- regardless of a perceived dive- should be made to sit out for a few minutes.

Lost amidst the flying bananas in the wake of Adebayor's goal was that, instead of rolling around in the hopes of drawing a card, the cat that crossed him the ball popped up to continue the attack after being hacked from behind.

The threat of a quarter-hour on the sidelines should be enough to deter diving. But, I wouldn't trust these officials to tell me the color of my boots, much less determine (or consistently apply logic to) whether a player was diving.

And, if they're going to implement a hockey-style "power play," I suggest an anti-hoofing measure; other than from a kickout, the ball has to be brought a certain ways upfield before it can be kicked over the half way line.

Rules suck, boys.

Related, but a little different: To cut down on injury faking, the player who "need treatment" should report to the fourth official and wait 5 minutes before returning to the field. The coach may opt to sub the player out (he may be truly injured) immediately. But if the player is faking, the penalty is 5 minutes. This will change the culture of feigning injury to kill the clock.

Rich's idea is a good one, minimum 5 minutes for ALL injuries requiring the club physio to enter the field of play.

Good idea, along with extra assistants and video evidence. And the captain being the only player allowed to speak to the referee. And all the other things that FIFA seems so scared of introducing. The players and managers have taken control of the rules of the game; this needs to be wrested back from them.
