As an Australian watching my team on the receiving end of a WC round 16 match loss to those filthy Ities and their rusty c**t bucket of a left back Fabio Grosso, my perception of this question is a little “tainted”. However I believe if I was in their shoes, I would have probably done the same thing and not thought twice about it… after-all it got them the Holy Grail of world football didn’t it?

It would be tainted, but no more so than any other bad refereeing decision.

No one appears too eager to do anything about these inconsistencies (like putting two referees and 4 linesmen out there…as it is now, they have a 4th official there to wipe the tears off the managers’ faces and keep them from howling at the referee).

Things won’t change because there is little incentive to do so (see NBA, which is as rigged as pro wrestling) because we still watch (and, even if we don’t, the market for football would still be growing).

Given that, everyone has to accept that you’ll win some, lose some and draw some based on referees’ subjectivity or a less than full understanding/view of what happened.

A better question to ask would be, “Would you give back the (World Cup, Champions League Trophy, etc) if one of your players dived to win a penalty?’
