Avram Grant should be Pompey boss by Saturday

Welcome back, Beautiful

Avram Grant

It’s a rather rudderless ship over at Portsmouth, with no one seemingly aware of what’s going on, or who actually makes decisions for the club. Without wanting to get too hoity toity about it, the similarities in name to the fallen city of Pompeii suddenly seem wonderfully appropriate.

Anyway, according to today’s Telegraph, the consensus is that Avram Grant will take the manager’s job if it’s offered to him as a permanent post, but he’d be somewhat reluctant if he’s only offered the role on a caretaker basis – and understandably so.

A permanent role does look the most likely outcome, now that it’s been revealed that one-time bookie’s favourite Darren Ferguson was never really in contention for the job, and that Alan Curbishley is holding out for something a little bit more glitzy.

So Avram’s first match in charge should be this Saturday - at home to Man United on the back of their defeat in the Champions League.

Could be worse… oh no, hang on. It couldn’t.

Not a Chelsea fan by a mile but Avram did pretty well during his tenure. So its not exactly the end of the world for Portsmouth to have him in charge. That said, he has a lot of work to do from this point with a squad of championship standard players so they’ll probably go down anyway. I won’t miss the c**t with the bell.

As a pompey fan I get so fed up with reporters and commenters repeating the same old dross about us! We do NOT have a team of championship players!

We have come through a very difficult time but to say this “It’s a rather rudderless ship over at Portsmouth, with no one seemingly aware of what’s going on” is just ridiculous! We have new owners who have been in a matter of weeks – give them a chance and try for something a little more original in your reporting!

Avram would be an ideal appointment – he is a respected and experienced manager who did well when at chelsea, who then treated him appallingly!

    Play Up Pompey!

you guys were well fucked before the change of hands took place and more than a few had you ear marked for relegation. your first team would bench for about most of the 19 other sides in the premier league. cheerio pompey!
