Fabio might yet take two Owens to the World Cup
The Owens – there’s still time
Hilariously, were Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves to enter into a civil partnership, one of them would be called Owen Owen. As it is, neither are gay. And, for those wondering, no, that isn’t what happened with Neville Neville. It was just a different time back then.
Anyway, the big news for both Owens is that they have each snared the Capello eye in recent weeks – Michael with his hat-trick against Wolsburg, and Hargreaves with news that he’s finally on the road back to potential Premier League action – albeit with his confidence slightly slumped by the months on the sidelines.
In the case of the former, the England manager seems a trifle concerned by Sir Alex Ferguson’s unwillingness to use him in important games. Saying this (in the Daily Mail):
“I saw the last game he played, on television, and he scored three in the Champions League but the next game he did not play. For this reason, I ask myself why.”
Whilst he has neither counted out any chance of Hargreaves (who, by the way, would make The Spoiler’s World Cup team, fully fit) boarding the plane come next summer.
“He has six months to recover his good form but he needs to play. I will choose players that will be fit in May.”
But would YOU take the Owens to the World Cup? That’s the question.
Let us know with a comment.

Assuming Owen Hargreaves regains his previous form in the next few months, I would definitely take him next year. He is pretty versatile. He can sit infront of the back four in the DMF position, or play in either role on the right wing, so he would prove to be good cover for Glen Johnson.
Not sure on Michael Owen just yet, let’s see what he can do in the next few months…

we don’t know what hargreaves will be like when he plays again as it would be quite a few months since he’s played and in theory as he in his late 20′s the tradition peak yrs of a midfield positioned footballer should be coming to an end in the next couple of yrs so chances are he may not be as good as he was in the 06 world cup and 07/08 season and therefore there may be better options for capello even if the player (gets back on the pitch – which lets be frank i think we’ve all given up predicted when (if ever!) hargreaves starts playing competative football again.
The other owen has stayed pretty injury free (hope i didn’t jinx it!) and is coming up to double figures (and it’s only mid-dec) and has proved he can score the important goals (man city anyone) so if those stats continue or improve than i wouldn’t put it past capello putting him in the team in a super-sub type role!

Here are two good reasons to take them.
1. Gareth Barry
2. Darren Bent
That is all.

Lets not be stupid, you can’t have two Owens at the World Cup.
For starters they will both most likely get injured after the first group game and then be out for the tournament.
Secondly, having two Owens in the team gets confusing with calling for the ball etc etc
I propose a bare-knuckle boxing match between them – the winner goes to South Africa

I meant “taking”. Sometimes my “tackle” gets in the way. *blush*

why not michael owen….he has notched up 7 goals for united in 9 starts………..the hattrick was enough to show his quality and also the city goal which showed that he can play at ease even in the most sticky situation…….i dont know about owen hargreaves but michael owen deserves to go.if capello wont take him then it will be sure that he is as stubborn as the previous coach mcclaren who stubbornly refused to give a place back to beckham and finally realised his mistake and brought him back ……..
