Lukaku scrap, Chamakh scuffle, Benzema skirmish…
The New Drogba – in demand
Of course, all eyes will now be on Man City during the transfer window, with murmurs suggesting that Mancini will be busily scrawling a list of presents on crumpled bits of paper, and delivering them to his team’s robed Santas in the next couple of days – meaning possible head-to-heads with Chelsea over the likes of Aguero and Ribery.
But, elsewhere in the hot transfer jungle, other deals shall be in the offing, and the New Year looks set to be marked with the arrival of a clutch of exciting new strikers.
One name doing some serious rounds is one-rumoured Arsenal target Romelo Lukaku, the 16-year-old Anderlecht striker, who has been dubbed “the new Drogba”. No surprises then to find Chelsea leading the charge, with Real Madrid and AC Milan also keen to snaffle the young Belgian.
Arsene Wenger might be equally outmuscled by Everton in his quest for a new frontman, with news in The Sun declaring that the blue segment of Merseyside fancy Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux – a scrap that may yet wait for the summer, with Champions League football still to be played.
Plus, the big hum coming from Man United is that £35 million could be set aside and used to lure Karim Benzema from Real Madrid in January. Which is great news for Michael Owen… not.
