Utility Player Alert!

Oh brother, Benitez just put a hex on Maxi Rodriguez!

Rodriguez – the new Robbie Keane/Ryan Babel?

Maxi Rodriguez

Some might argue that one of the biggest problems to have hamstrung Liverpool’s progress is that no one really knows where they fit in to the team.

Gerrard is part-midfielder/part-second striker. Dirk Kuyt, like Babel, is considered to be a winger, or, again, a second striker if needs be. Robbie Keane was equally kept in the dark during his lame stint with his boyhood heroes.

Basically, Torres-aside, the Anfield attack appears to lack any kind of stability/consistency. And sadly, with the arrival of Maxi Rodriguez, there is little sign of any improvement on the situation.

Rafa Benitez has reportedly said this:

“He can play in three positions – on the right, left or as a second striker – and is someone with a very positive mentality, which is what we are looking for.”

Unfortunately, he said much the same on the arrival of both Babel and Keane, which surely translates as: “Oh dear, I have no idea what to do with him.”
