Benitez Nightmare Update

Oh dear Rafa, Hiddink fancies a crack at being Anfield boss

The right man to replace Rafa?

Guus Hiddink

Only a man/woman with a smouldering rock where their heart should be wouldn’t feel a little bit sorry for Rafa Benitez at the moment. The man is having possibly the worst bout of January Blues of all time.

Knocked out of the FA Cup to Reading, Gerrard and Torres screaming on the treatment table, just about every pundit in the country yelling for his dismissal with all of the subtlety and grace of a man barging into a room lugging the head of Osama Bin Laden.

And now Guus Hiddink has suggested that he fancies another bash at management in the Premier League.

As reported in today’s Daily Mail, the former-Chelsea boss has confided in his closest drinking companions that he’d love to fill Benitez’s shoes at Anfield, all of which will only add extra pressure to the dangling axe above the Liverpool manager’s head.

The Dutchman first needs to kneel in front of Abramovich and beg for his blessing, before making himself available:

“I have to speak to the federation president before making any decision on my future, but it is true that I would like to coach in England again. After all the support I’ve received from Roman Abramovich I owe it to them to discuss anything with them first.”

Put simply, if Rafa can’t motivate Gerrard, Torres, Agger et al to beat (or even come close to beating) a struggling Championship side at home in the FA Cup when they have no chance of winning anything else worth-while this year, he shouldn’t be in the job.

Benitez is getting all the flak here. While Im not an avid supporter of Rafa, I think far too much of the scrutiny is being aimed towards him, its those debt ridden yanks, who harbour no love for football (or soccerball to them) and certainly none for LFC are dragging our beloved club down.
Hiddink good as a manager as he’d be would only be a quick fix. The club is rotten from the core and it needs fixed immediately. I would not loose sleep if Rafa was to leave tomorrow, but I know for a fact the long term issue’s would be still lingering like a bad smell.
