Roy Hodgson will regain hero status against Pompey tonight
It’s largely gone unnoticed but Fulham are currently enduring their worst Premier League losing streak since February 2002, having been beaten in each of their last five games.
There are mitigating circumstances – four of the matches have come away from home, opponents have included Chelsea, Spurs and Villa, and they’ve had bad luck with injuries – but they need to turn things around quickly, with only six points separating them from the relegation zone.
As luck would have it, tonight they welcome Portsmouth to Craven Cottage. Poor Pompey have lost eight of their 11 away league games, scoring just five goals – even the eternally homesick Cottagers have managed more than double that on their travels.
If you take the bottom eight out of the equation, Avram Grant’s side have lost 13 of their 14 matches this season, with Fulham even managing their only away triumph at Fratton Park.
With Pompey being stripped of arguably their two best January performers, Asmir Begovic and Younes Kaboul, the remaining players still dreaming of payday and the manager wondering why he’s there, we fancy Fulham to not only win but keep a clean sheet too, at 7/4 with Paddy Power.
