Pay cuts at West Ham, Wayne Bridge update…
Kieron Dyer – the opposite of “a bargain”
The journalistic landscape is a vast one. Right this second, in snazzy areas of London, hardened tabloid hacks will be posing as bin men in order to rifle through celebrity rubbish. Higher brow scribes will be loitering around Parliament, ears flapping, dictaphones strapped to their stomachs. And somewhere in the Zoo/Nuts axis of sophistication, a trendy young journalist with deliberately messy hair will be pitching a feature called “Tit for Tatt”, in which girls on the street expose their breasts in return for a free tattoo. Most probably positioned on the small of their back.
And yet, The Spoiler is concerned with none of the above. Instead, we choose to follow the hard working sports journalists – from the likes of The Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Guardian etc… – who have just today reported the following:
David Sullivan – West Ham’s new owner – is so flabbergasted by the state of the club’s accounts that he will be reportedly cutting wages by around 25 per cent come the summer. He said this:
“Everyone will be asked to take a cut this summer.”
“I can’t believe the contracts I’ve inherited.”
“Every position is overpaid, whether in administration or on the playing side.”
On that, there was an outbreak of coughing, which somehow sounded like Jamie Carragher saying the words “Dyer” and “Kieron” over and over again.
In England news, Fabio Capello has opted to not speak to Wayne Bridge about the recent sex scandal until it is absolutely necessary. The left back has dropped hints that he wouldn’t be happy to line up alongside the man who rogered his ex, but the England boss will cross that, ahem, bridge, depending on the player’s form. At the moment, he’s probably safe.
And, in summer transfer news, ears will have pricked up in Manchester and Chelsea, after Franck Ribery said this:
“Bayern is still a big club. It’s one of the biggest in the world but I find that our team is not as strong as other teams, like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea.”
“Maybe we will have trouble competing against these teams. I want to win trophies and to enjoy myself. I’m not 20 any more. I am closer to the end of my career than the beginning.”
Massive cheque books at the ready.

Ho, ho, ho! So the Wham/SullivanGoldBrady honeymoon is over! As though they hadn’t thoroughly inspected the books before they bought the club – sorry Hammers but you are going to become a Birmingham style club.
