Back in the early days of the Premier League, last night’s Fabianski performance would have triggered at least one hilarious quip from the commentary box about it not being Comic Relief for another few months. Even as recently as a couple of years ago, you’d half expect everyone’s favourite inner city Jeremy Beadle, Rio Ferdinand, to emerge from the tunnel shouting “arrgghhh merk’d! You’ve been merk’d!”, as the rest of the team rolled around on the pitch, cackling like maniacs.
