New Big Four?

The race for 4th should go Liverpool’s way… right?

Eyes on the prize, Rafa. Eyes on the prize.

Benitez

It’s been a brilliant Premier League season, one packed to the gills with subplots, dramatic twists and turns, and in the run up to the end of the season, private battles will be blazing in every segment of the table. Not least the race for the fourth spot.

As things stand, you can bet your nan on Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all finishing in the top four – really, she won’t mind. Leaving one place left for one of Spurs, Man City, Villa and Liverpool.

As things stand, it looks like Liverpool’s to lose. Certainly they’re the favourites with the bookmakers (with odds of around 13/8 to clinch fourth), and with only four teams currently in the top ten left to play – Man United, Birmingham, Fulham, and Chelsea – they look to have the easiest route to the finishing line. Most of their games are at Anfield, including the Chelsea match.

Of the other three, Spurs need to make it through one of the cruelest Aprils of all time, during which they will face Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United in the space of just over a fortnight.

Man City still have seven top ten teams to play – including Chelsea and Arsenal away, before hosting Man United on their side of town.

Whilst Villa are due trips to both Chelsea and Man City, in an ever so slightly away-match-heavy end to the campaign.

Man City’s matches against both Spurs and Villa will obviously have much to say in the outcome.

GAMBLER ALERT! Do keep an sturdy eye on the resurgent Everton (now at odds of around 20/1 on Paddy Power) – they might be around seven points shy of the pack, but with none of the old “Big Four” left to play, and the chance to steal points off both Tottenham and Villa, they could yet prove to be the dark horses in the race. In fact, they might even accidentally do their old rivals, Liverpool, a couple of massive favours, without entirely meaning to.

But, who do YOU think will clinch the all-important Champions League spot? Can you spot any potential bumps in the road?
