Fall of the Roman Empire

John Terry’s losing the dressing room, insists Desailly

Terry – done for?

John Terry

The thing about great leaders is that, eventually, they tend to fall.

Many of you will remember Shakespeare’s famous quote from Julius Caesar – “beware the ides of March”. A chilling sentence, made in reference to the day that Caesar took 23 stab wounds to the body and died, many of them coming from the frenzied piston-like thrusts of his old pal/colleague, Brutus.

Well, it’s March now, and in a creepy football equivalent of Caesar’s story, John Terry is beginning to resemble a man who let the power go to his head, and may yet turn his own people against him. Were this an actual recreation of the rise of the Roman (Abramovich) Empire, Lampsie would presumably be Brutus. Joe Cole might be “Pompey the Great”. And Ashley Cole would be a young male prostitute called Twerpus Preposterous.

Certainly, ex-Chelsea man Marcel Desailly can see Terry’s old cohorts turning against him. He said this, as reported in today’s Sun:

“The whole squad is affected and has big problems. It will be a hard end to the season.”

“Knowing John Terry well, I know why he is not playing the way he normally does. He was catastrophic against Inter Milan.”

“You have to understand that John is a born leader and captain of this Chelsea side since 2004. Now he has no credibility whatsoever within the club and this is being felt.”

“No one is following him. Lampard, Joe Cole and the others who knew Wayne Bridge no longer allow him to be the leader.”

Beware the ides of March, JT.

“Ides” means “fifteenth day”, for anyone interested.

Chelsea face Inter on the 16th.

You forgot the main protagonist in Cesar’s assassination (at least the one portrayed by Shakespeare anyway) – Cassius.

    That’d be Bridge, right?

    Yeah that would do…

Ron Atkinson’s favourite n-word is still upset Terry took his place at Chelsea and effectively ended his pension gravy train.

Really now….all these Merry Wives Of Windsor have to get over themselves and grow up. Enough of this focking turmoil over ex or current wives, ex or current girlfriends one time there now and get on with playing the game.

Instead of not shaking Terry’s hand, Bridge should have just bitch-slapped him upside the the head and played on. ((oh that’s right, in the match, he did….*hrrrr*)) If Bridge felt he was in the morally superior position, he should have taken the high road and been strong and firm with his handshake.

As Shakespeare said, “Virtue is bold, and goodness is never fearful.”

But then again, as a good ol’ Wisconsin boy who’s looking forward to England vs USA in the World Cup, I would kinda like to see this silly childish turmoil keep bubbling away.
