Someone’s paying these kids too much, suggests Capello
“Bloody footballers, with their money, and their sex”
If any lessons can be taken from the US drama series 90210 – the story of schoolkids taking one another out for dinner, then quickly nipping in to spoil a cocktail party on the way home – it’s that too much money can really mess up a your life.
Yeah, they’ve got the sexy parents and the massive wardrobe, but they’ve also got issues, dude. And, like, drug problems. And a venereal disease. It’s tough, man. Having loads of money and a hot bod is no cake walk.
A point not lost on the England manager, Fabio Capello, who, in the build up to tonight’s big one against Egypt, has put the recent off-field shenanigans down to a simple case of young men having far too much money far too soon.
He said this (as reported in today’s Daily Mail):
“Young players, young boys, rich boys … this is the problem.”
“It’s not only here. In Italy, in Germany, in Spain. In every country where football is so important like this. It’s the same problem.”
He went on to stress that his players will need to tone down the wild nights out and illicit sex parties. At least until the back end of the summer, after the World Cup has been won/lost.
“It is really important that the players in this last period have to be careful in their own lives at every moment.”
“They have to behave. They are important players. They have to be an example to children, for all fans. For that reason, they have to stay careful and sacrifice something in their lives.”
A strong, serious message, indeed. To put it in perspective for any kids reading, were there an emoticon attached, it would be this one:
Straight face.
