Well, the debate’s over, Michael Owen is OUT!
“No, not ‘high ten’, Wayne – ‘goodbye’”
You want to know why international managers get paid so much? To make big decisions. The kind of decisions that can infuriate lowly members of the general public, who swear blind that they could do a better job of it, if only they could locate the necessary energy surge to lift them away from the Jeremy Kyle/Trisha double bill and plop them into the actual workforce.
That said, thanks to the kindly hand of fate, Capello’s job does seem to be getting easier by the second. The left back, right back, and right wing conundrums look set to be settled by whoever happens to be injured – emotionally or otherwise - when it comes to squad-picking time. Whilst the raging debate about whether Michael Owen has any worth on a World Cup bench has come to an abrupt halt.
The big news is that the hamstring injury picked up in the Carling Cup final has proved bad enough to rule Owen out for the rest of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson said this (as reported in the Daily Mail):
“It’s a bad blow – he’s out for the season.”
“Unfortunately it’s more serious than we thought. He will be operated on on Monday morning.”
“It’s a terrible blow for the lad and is disappointing news for us too. He has never missed a training session all season.”
“I think the heavy pitch at Wembley on Sunday made some contribution to it but really it is just bad luck.”
Or, if you happen to be Fabio Capello, “good” luck?
Now all he needs is for the likes of Carlton Cole, Ben Foster, Ashley Young, and David Becksie to get a knock or two, and bosh! Decisions made! Squad picked!

yes because it’s fantastic to not have the option of a guy who’s scored 40 goals for his country. you know. someday rooney will be burnt out, just like owen. so i guess you’ll be hoping for him to turn into an early grave as well then? scum.

it’s called putting emotions aside and looking at facts and reality. Owen is old, and not as good as younger players. Rooney will get old, and be left out of the squad one day too. It’s nice to get all nostalgic but if you want to win you gotta pick the best players now, not the best players ten years ago. Watch what’s gonna happen to Italy this year because that’s the mentality there….

thank you Anon, the person who wrote this article really is scum for calling an injury to a great player good luck. is this how you treat a legend who is one of the top goal scorers? Owen has always delivered in an England shirt
