Chelsea make their feelings clear about Joe Cole

Yeah, those contract negotiations didn’t quite go to plan…

Joe Cole

Were you to study the narrative structure of a typical soap opera, you’d find that the trend seems to be pretty consistent. A character starts out happy/stable, then everything goes wrong for a bit, before eventually they become happy/stable again. Or dead. If you want a writing job on Eastenders, simply repeat this format for as many years as you can stomach.

In soap opera terms, Joe Cole is currently caught up in the middle bit – where Dirty Den has just asked for a divorce, or Toadfish has been stabbed in the spine by Mrs Mangel. His World Cup hopes are all but dashed, and the word from today’s Daily Star is that he’s recently been offered an appalling contract to stay on at Chelsea. One which he’s going to refuse.

It’s understood that the contract in question was for one year, and on almost half-pay. The Star said this:

He was stunned when chairman Bruce Buck offered a 12-month deal with a one-year option – even though he is still only 28 and regarded as one of the most talented players in the Premier League.

The player will therefore be looking for a new home in the summer, with the whisper on the street being that one of the Manchester clubs, or Spurs, will be his next port of call.

But are Chelsea making a big mistake? Is Joe going to be okay? Let us know with a comment.

I hope United Sign him… I know he is played on the wings, but he could work really well as Scholes replacement

Joe Cole is a brilliant player and Chelsea would be making a huge mistake by letting him go. Sure he has had his fair share of injuries but a healthy Joe Cole is one of the best in the game.

Isn’t this a sign that they know something we don’t though. He’s not gonna be worth much if he’s officially destined to spend 80% of the rest of his career injured.

Well, I’m in a similar situation than JC: in my job nobody appreciates me, my finantial boss is always trying to make it look like I’m a big expensive, rather than an asset, and they always try to pay me less.

The only difference is…if I lose my job, I go out to the real world, where there aren’t much “Manchester Uniteds” trying to catch me and offer me loads of dough.

    So….pants…prepare to go down again…
