News in Brief

David Beckham job offers, Cesc to Juventus, and more…

Is one of these men “the new Gary Lineker”?

Beckham and Lineker

Romance fans will be bitterly disappointed today, with news that Kate Winslet has managed to make a pig’s ear of another marriage - she’s divorcing Sam Mendes, the man who directed the slow moving Jamie Redknapp hairstyle biopic, Jarhead. As expected, showbiz desks are completely furious about this.

One group who couldn’t give a monkeys, however, are the hard working sports writers. Not big Winslet fans, these office heroes have avoided the furore entirely, and have been instead been writing about football. Here’s what we know today, thanks to the likes of The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Guardian etc…:

In a move that could prove to be just as calamitous as when the BBC accidentally interviewed a confused taxi driver on the news, thinking that he was an IT expert, ”Auntie” will be fighting ITV and ESPN to get David Beckham as a World Cup pundit. As reported in today’s Sun, a “source” said this:

“David has a lot of different offers coming in but he cannot get his head round any of them at the moment.”

Real Madrid are hoping that his crippling personal problems will be enough to tempt Ashley Cole away from Chelsea, and are reportedly lining up a big summer bid, somewhere in the region of £25million.

Whilst over in Italy, the men who ride mopeds to work at Juventus are putting together a shady plan to ensnare Cesc Fabregas. The word from the popular daily paper, Tuttosport, is that the Arsenal skipper is their number one target. They will, of course, have to do battle with Arsenal, Barcelona, and probably Real Madrid for his thumb print.

And for those who happened to miss out on the Steven Gerrard elbow controversy, here it is in High Definition (perhaps):

    Cesc to Juve now?

What a rubbish. Juve doesn’t have the money for starters. If they rob a bank or something and find the money, Cesc wouldn’t go to Serie A while there’s interest from Barcelona.

    Tuttosport is obviously dreaming.
