In Britain the press are ready to pounce in a frenzy of indignation the moment any of our footballers are snapped doing something, or someone they shouldn’t be; whether it’s proudly showing off willies on the internet, having unapologetic sex with a friend’s ex-partner or making giving it gun-fingers while rambling into a microphone.
Imagine the number of ambulances that would have to be called to Fleet Street, every day, if Brazilian striker Vagner Love, South American football’s premier sex advocate, ever journeyed over to these shores. He’s recently been making waves in Brazil’s newspapers after being snapped on a night out at an underground rave. In the middle of a slum. Accompanied by hordes of rock hard-looking drug dealers. Carrying AK-47s. And anti-tank rocket launchers.
A hidden camera captured Love enjoying a night out after scoring two goals for Flamengo in a 4-1 win in February. On arriving at the party in Rochina, the biggest slum in Rio de Janiero, the striker was escorted inside by rifle-toting guards, followed by the undercover cameraman who managed to get shots of more guards inside and someone casually strolling around with an AT-4, a Swedish-made anti-tank rocket currently being used to blow shit up in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Despite being fingered associating with some known drug dealers, Love was unfazed when confronted about the incident:
“I always go to these parties, I see no problem with it. I usually do social work in some of these places, so I always attend. I’ll never stop going to my origins, my roots.
